I have been teaching music both in the private and classroom settings since 2001. With my experience in Jazz, Latin, Brazilian and Classical music, I am able to offer my students a wide variety of stylistic possibilities. When I first started learning how to play jazz, the biggest challenge was figuring out how to practice jazz. Over the years, I have developed many methods for learning improvisation, new voicings, scales, rhythms and repertoire. One of my strengths as a teacher is my ability to thoroughly explain new concepts in a manner that makes sense to my students. The following is a list of the areas I generally cover in lessons: -Voicings: Open and Closed Positions -Scales: As we learn new voicings, we will work on their corresponding scales -Repertoire: Jazz Standards as well as other pieces I have arranged -Improvisation: Playing over chord structures - endless possibilities -Critical listening: No better way to learn than by listening to the greats! -Analysis: Playing through transcriptions and understanding the essence of it all.
