FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For Representation, I charge a flat rate of $135.00 per hour with the client paying all expenses such as postage, mileage, travel, and lodging. A $1,000 retainer is required when the client signs the engagement letter and the Form 2848 Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative. If less than 7.5 hours is required, any excess will be refunded; however if the hours required to complete the representation exceeds the retainer, I will request an additional retainer based on the additional time I expect the representation to take. Tax Returns are based on a charge per schedule as determined by the amount of time that the IRS computes as necessary to complete the schedule. The normal charge for a simple 1040 is $175.00 with fees for each additional schedule ranging from $67.50 to $675.00. Corporate, Partnership and Trust returns are based on a minimum of $675.00 (5 hours) and $135 for each additional hour required to complete the return.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
To maintain the Enrolled Agent credential I must complete 72 continuing education units approved by the IRS in a three year period. Of these 72 CPE, 6 must be in the area of ethics and 66 must be in the area of tax law. A minimum of 16 must be completed in any year with 2 of them being in ethics. I, like most Enrolled Agents complete an average of 50 CPE or more every year so that we can maintain our competency because of the continual change in tax law.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After college I started working in the accounting department of a large corporation. When an opening came up in the corporate tax department, I jumped for the opportunity to transfer to it. I worked my way up through the tax departments of several large corporations to Tax Manager and then on to Assistant Treasurer. When I retired, I decided to take the SEA and open my own practice. I have always enjoyed working with taxes and helping taxpayers with the taxing authorities.
