If your looking for a tutor who not only gets results, but is also someone who generally cares for their students, than let me introduce you to Carl. My son is currently having difficulties in geometry. I had used thumbtack in the past for other projects and tried to see if I could find a math tutor on their site. Sure enough, we found Carl. In the short time that Carl has been working with my son, I have seen a marked improvement not only in my sons grades, but also in my sons work ethic. Carl has brought an enthusiasm and fresh approach to teaching my son math. Carl is flexible with regards to scheduling and if necessary, always spends more time with my son than just the allotted hour. He truly doesn’t want to leave until he’s sure my son understand whatever concept they happen to be going over. He really does go the extra mile for his students. I sincerely can’t recommend Carl’s services more. If there is a subject that you or someone you know needs help with, Carl is someone who will take the time and get you where you want to be.Feb 8, 2018Verified
Middle School Math Tutoring (Grades 6-8)
Carl is a great tutor for my 12 year old son. He was having trouble with his accelerated 7th grade math program and Carl gave him the confidence and knowledge he needed to improve his grades from a low C to a high B. He has only been working with him for a month so I know his grades will get even better. Carl has a way with kids that makes learning fun and he knows how to communicate with them on there own level. He always makes sure that my son knows the lesson for the week and he will even spend extra time with him to make sure he does. I am so glad that I found Carl and I would highly recommend him. He is worth every penny and even more. Thank you Carl for helping my son with his math.Nov 24, 2015Verified
Carl was referred to us by a very happy, satisfied student. He has been tutoring my Junior daughter in Algebra 2. She has always been challenged in Math and saves all homework till last. Carl has been a "spark" in getting her to not "hate" it so much. He comes prepared, energetic and dedicated to gaining a clear understanding of the topic, while interjecting humor into this very dry subject. Carl has been instrumental in my daughters improved Algebra 2 grade! Hurray!Apr 3, 2016
Carl has truly been a blessing. My son is always looking forward to his tutoring day with Mr. Carl. I have seen a huge improvement with not only his reading but also with his speech. He gives him books that he will enjoy ,but also challenge him. Thank you so much Mr. Carl.May 11, 2018Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I am open to reducing my hourly fee based on any of these factors: -- the client is willing to meet me at a convenient location that reduces my own driving time -- the length of the lesson is 90 minutes or more -- the frequency of lessons is more than once-per-week
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I begin with a telephone conversation in which the client and I discuss his/her specific needs and goals and the ways in which I can help realize them. We then schedule a first lesson in which we get to know one another and feel comfortable working together. The lesson can take place at the client's home, office or a nearby cafe/coffeeshop.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) in history and European literature. My coursework in college required of me to devote extensive time to reading and writing, and this process enabled me to master the art of navigating the English language and articulating my ideas in writing and speaking in a precise, sophisticated and succinct fashion. I have a Master's degree in Education from Lesley University (Cambridge, MA). My coursework there along with my classroom practicum/internship experience instilled in me tremendous insight into the quailities and work habits that make one an effective teacher. In my 30-year teaching career, I have worked as a Grade 4 classroom teacher, a history teacher to Grades 6-9 (American, European, Asian, and ancient history), a library studies teacher, a children's drama teacher and theater director, and a school communications writer and editor.
