Larry Allen showed up on time, examined the projects and laid out how he would go about addressing them. He is direct, straightforward, cordial and polite person who takes pride in his work. The quantity of work he produce’s is outstanding. We are very satisfied with the flooring installation work he did in the examining rooms that we have decided to do the rest of the office.

Jeff the Painter did a wonderful job painting the exterior of my house. Of the three quotes I got for the job, his was the lowest. Jeff has a contractor's license for painting. The other companies had licenses but the people who held them lived in Northern California or another state. Jeff assigned a crew to paint my house but Jeff inspected daily and worked with his crew so they knew what to do and in what order. The crew was led by Jeremy and all the crew were polite, efficient, fast, and cleaned up as they went along. Jeff was very easy to do business with. If anything he was too relaxed. Where the other painters provided detailed quotes about what they would or would not do, Jeff's quote merely stipulated the number of colors, that he would paint the house, and the price. That doesn't mean he cut any corners. I had forgotten to ask Jeff to paint the frame of my house numbers (address number) a different color from my house. I mentioned it to Jeremy and he offered to repaint it which he did. Overall I couldn't be happier with the way the job was done and the price I paid. I was thinking about repainting part of the inside of my house myself, but seeing what Jeff can do and how quickly has me thinking of hiring him for the job. I definitely recommend that you hire Jeff The Painter for your painting project.

Ronald came to my home in Whittier CA and did an excellent job. He was very friendly on the phone and even friendlier when he was working on my home. I had Ronald come to strip some grass cloth paper in a bedroom and patch a couple spots of wall that had water damage. He came one day to evaluate the project and a second day to complete all of the work. Ronald called to let me know when he was on his way and arrived on time! I really appreciate this as I am completing several jobs at once and Ron's timeliness was great. It's a good feeling to have a job done so quickly and easily. The work was done very well and he was very clean and respectful to my home! I recommend Ronald to anyone looking for wallpaper or painting work in their home. He is my first pick for my next painting projects.

Caleb was great. Came out to see the job the same day I called him. We were in a bit of a time crunch for this project and he was able to accommodate our schedule. We hired him on the spot to remove a bunch of tile and thinset. Job was finished in a timely manner and I was able to start laying the new flooring next day thanks to his attention to detail during floor prep. Highly recommend his services!! Thanks Caleb -The Wrights

I have used Fausto Molina for several projects. The most recent one involved removing the old fluorescent light fixtures in the kitchen, closing up the space, forming a new ceiling and adding LED spotlights. As always, Fausto's work was very professional (i.e., covering everything to protect my property), and his work top notch. I strongly recommend Fausto's work.

My husband and I recently had wallpaper put up on two accent walls in a grand room with high ceilings. We hired Nancy Tucker, because she came highly recommended by a friend. I am sure glad that we went with her and not anyone else. She was friendly, professional, punctual, and went above and beyond the call of duty. It was supposed to be a two day job. Day 1: the liner & Day 2: the paper. On day 2, we discovered that our wallpaper batch was bad. She took down the bad paper and she was on call for us whenever we got the new batch from the distributor. Once it arrived, she came again ready to work. This batch was even worse!!! She never complained about having to drive back in forth from Huntington Beach to our home in Pasadena. She also never asked for more money. She stuck with the quote that she gave us in the first place as a 2 day job. Finally, the company got there act together and sent us good paper. She hung it beautifully. She is a pro and I would recommend her to everyone and anyone!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?

The national wallpaper removal cost averages $360-$560, which will typically include multiple rooms. Pros often charge by the square foot to remove egregious wallpaper that is long past its prime. Wallpaper removal cost may range anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 or more per square foot. A pro may estimate removal costs ranging between $160 and $300 for a medium-sized room. Costs can vary due to ceiling height, and some pros add a skim coat to make repainting or re-papering smoother. Here are some examples of average costs to remove wallpaper:

    • Foyer: 36-120 square feet, $21.60-$180.
    • Powder room: 16-36 square feet, $9.60-$54.
    • Living or dining room: 120-252 square feet, $72-$378.
    • Family room: 192-384 square feet, $115.20-$576.
    • Bedroom: 100-224 square feet, $60-$336.
    • Guest bath: 45-84 square feet, $27-$126.
    • Master bedroom: 168-384 square feet, $100.80-$576.
    • Master bath: 54-160 square feet, $32.40-$240.

Once the old wallpaper is gone, the average cost to install new wallpaper is $240-$350.
