Having Deirdre help with the entire college application process was truly PRICELESS! To have someone else keep my daughter moving along worked so much better than when I "nagged" her.
- helping us research and decide WHICH colleges are a good fit for my particular child
- setting deadlines and continually nudging my daughter to then actually KEEP those deadlines
- keeping her on track to finalize each part of the Common Application on time
- advising us on what each college is looking for in an applicant (which activities and skills to emphasize, which are less important)
- inspiring her to craft an incredible essay (Deirdre taught writing for many years and was able to "get" my daughter to write and keep writing until she had an essay of which she felt proud)

We had a fantastic experience with Mrs. Allen. My son was stuck with his essays. Mrs. Allen was very patient; her approach was to "give student the fishing rod instead of the fish". After submitting his EA applications with Deirdre's help, he was able to write twice as many essays on his own for regular admission. Mrs. Allen was always available if he had any questions. I don't know what his essays were about, but he got accepted to several good schools, including an Ivy League one, which he chose to attend.
The college application process was very stressful, and we couldn't do it without Mrs. Allen.

We used Deirdre to help with college applications, essays as well as general's writing and executive function. My son has difficulty focusing on writing, in particular and has challenges with executive function. Deirdre listened to my concerns, heard my son’s needs, his deep anxiety and she found ways to motivate him as well as teach him some tools to get ideas rolling . My son is exceptionally bright and STEM oriented; Deirdre understood how important it was that his authentic voice came through in his writing.
