FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I consider reading to be the best way to hone my editing skills. Whenever I read a great story, I sort of soak in what worked to make it so great, as compared to other stories that are not so great. There's a certain degree of innate ability to just sort of "know" what it is about any story that makes it better, or work better than other stories, and I definitely think I have that. However, the more good work I read, the better my editing gets, especially and specifically my Content editing. I give excellent feedback and suggestions to my clients, if and when they ask for that as part of my services, which are always just $7/1000 words.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a writer, I sought professional editing services myself, but simply could not afford the high rates, which I found to be ridiculously over-priced. As a reader, I landed a non-paying job with an upstart horror magazine, Dark Moon Digest, reading through their slush piles and Associate Editing. My Associate Editing was good enough that after only 8 months, I was invited on staff (this time paid, yay!) as a full Editor for the book imprint affiliated with the magazine, Dark Moon Books. I soon discovered I have a knack for editing, not just writing, and after my personal experiences with editing services that charge criminal fees, I began to formulate a plan to become a professional editor myself, helping fellow struggling writers get the services they so desperately want, but at a reasonable rate.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I usually receive manuscripts for full novels, anywhere between 60,000-90,000 words, but I have also edited many short stories, and a few anthologies as well. The work I receive can vary from anywhere between 15-600 pages or more! Every project is different.
