Using a refreshing mix of song transcriptions, method books, and audio/video recordings, Galen is able to provide his drum students with challenging practice materials to work with throughout the week. He began teaching privately in 2007, and as a measure of the success of his approach to teaching drums, Galen has seen his students receive summer camp scholarships, attend collegiate music programs, play on recordings, and tour internationally.

Galen is an incredible teacher! I came as a beginner to drums. He offered a great mix of technical practice alongside practice to music. Kept it challenging and fun at the same time. Galen tailored lessons to my musical interests and offered great resources for learning outside class. Also extremely personable and fun to work with.

Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to play drums. By the time I became middle-aged - I didn't think it was still possible. I started taking lessons with Galen in 2019. His patience, enthusiasm, and creativity with his lesson plan transformed me into a drummer actually playing with a trio. Whether it's in person or online, Galen is an excellent teacher. He turned my dream into a reality.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began playing drums at age ten and quickly realized it was a calling and a passion. My father was a college professor, so teaching is in my blood. About 13 years ago I started working with drum students at Piedmont High and decided to combine my love for playing drums with my natural inclination to teach!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
It’s important to find the right fit when it comes to a music teacher. Personality, musical interests and teaching style should be compatible..You may need to try a few teachers or even instruments before you find true inspiration.
