From start to finish, the process of having our stone countertop fabricated and installed for our vanity was smooth. Michelle was quick to respond and worked well in any changes. And Alvaro who executed the work did it with efficiency and quality! It’s also hard to find contractors who are on time - and he showed up when he said he would. Very happy with the job!Dec 11, 2018Verified

I hired A. Martinez Marble & Granite based on their nice reviews on Thumbtack, but I was soon very disappointed with their work. After quoting me for installing quartz countertops using a slab I had purchased and for demolition, Alvaro and his team began work in my kitchen. During the demolition, they scratched my cabinetry, and they installed Orient Strand Board (which is not up to the standard of 5/8" plywood listed in CA code). After receiving my slab from another installer, Alvaro increased his quoted price by $800. I had informed him that I had a full slab, but I was now stuck with either paying a higher price or paying Alvaro for demolition so that I could get my slab back. Alvaro informed me that the discounted price of $200 for demolition would be increased to $600 if I did not go with him, and he held my slab until I paid him the full amount on PayPal. During this time, he would not provide me with a license number, suggesting that he is performing unlicensed work. Once I found out this information and saw the cabinetry and out-of-code plywood installation, I challenged PayPal for half of the money that I had paid A. Martinez. I did not think that it was fair to challenge them for all of my cost, as they did demolition my counter, no matter how shoddily. Upon seeing the challenge, they told me to "stick my money where it fits" and that I would get half of my charge back. Instead of coming through on their word, they decided to deny the claim and to continue being a dishonest business. I offer caution to anyone who would hire Alvaro and Michelle for their services. If you don't mind taking the risk of sudden price changes or of unlicensed liabilities, you may receive wonderful service. If, however, you would like the security of top-notch service without the headache of constant deal-changing, I suggest that you hire a different, preferably licensed, contractor. Please consult the state licensing board for the list of liabilities that you incur from hiring unlicensed, uncontracted work.Jan 15, 2019VerifiedA. Martinez Marble & Granite's reply
Thank you for your review. PayPal cancelled the claim since we showed evidence of what you are suggesting we don’t have and what we did.

Michelle is the front woman who coordinates scheduling and pricing. She’s very responsive, polite, and provided me with all of the information I needed to purchase the prefabricated quartz countertops and backsplash from Granite Expo in Emeryville. She’s awesome and gave me a fantastic price for labor, thousands less than everyone else and that is not an exaggeration. Antonio is the front man who demo’ed my kitchen countertops in one day. He was on time. Don’t expect him to chat you up, he’s there to work. The next day they picked up the quartz I purchased from the warehouse and installed them. It’s quite a process to cut all the holes for the light switches, sink and faucet etc. he has two guys helping that worked hard and did a good job. They finished the installation in one day. Some things of note: they don’t do any plumbing or electrical so I still need someone to install the light switch covers and I had to hire a plumber to install the faucet. They did install my under-mount sink though. They cleaned up but I found some leftover pieces laying around here and there. Overall I still give 5 stars for value, communication, punctuality, and speed of work. Thank you.May 28, 2018Verified
I would recommend Martinez Marble. They were responsive and professional. I had a delay with my countertops and they were flexible and patient. They did my countertops quickly and cleaned up after themselves. We really like our new countertops and sink.Jul 31, 2020Verified
