Introduction
Pastel and oil painting of animals (horses, cats, birds, and especially dogs) and flowers are my specialties. Painting dog portraits with their personality showing is my passion. I am a current signature member of the Sierra Pastel Society, and I have spent over two years as their newsletter director. Several of my first-place awards have been very recent. I have and will be in several shows this year. My love for painting dogs is my way of fullfiling a need to be close to them.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always loved painting and discovered my "niche" recently with painting animals. I also do portraits of people but have not experienced the same emotional response from the paintings. Pastel as a medium for me works best. I don't have to be concerned with putting paints away and work on a painting for maybe 5 minutes at a time if I see something needing to be changed/added. It's a soft and lovely way to paint animals and people. I love it!

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you want to be truly happy with the resulting painting, hire someone who loves their subject matter. I for one, will take the time to get it right and thoroughly enjoy the process! I love painting animals and flowers in pastel and oil. Shortly, I intend to branch out into human portraiture but first will come the cats. Also, hire someone who wishes to please the customer and can take constructive critique' of their work. I try to meet the animal's owner, talk to them and observe the animal for capturing it's personality. I always take many photos to get the best representation of the pet's looks and behavior. This is what I would suggest for anyone caring enough to commission a painting.
