Introduction: I use a lot of techniques and exercises to focus all of my students (classical, modern or composers) on developing their musical faculties: their sense of rhythm, their ear, and their imagination so that they can play their own and other people's music with intention. This is always important, because whether you're playing other people's music or your own, music always comes from some place. Knowing where the music you play is coming from makes it music, and gives purpose to the work you'll do.
I love appreciating the new things my students show me, and experiencing what they appear to love. I love seeing them engaged with something that interests them.
