Introduction: I'm a professional teacher/multi-instrumentalist musician from Southern California. I teach beginning to advanced guitar, beginning to late intermediate piano/bass/ukulele, and beginning to late intermediate mandolin. I primarily teach over the internet, via Skype. For "1 Minute Lesson" YouTube links, check the Photos/Videos section at the end of this Introduction! I've been playing guitar for over 25 years, piano for 20 years, and ukulele/bass/mandolin for 10 years. I have a music degree from California State Fullerton University, Fullerton, CA. I'm endorsed by the Gretsch Guitar Company, and I have played with/opened shows for many famous artists- such as the legendary music icon Prince, Chuck Berry, Joe Strummer of The Clash, Reverend Horton Heat, and Dwight Yoakum. I specialize in blues guitar. The also specialize in pop piano, with some jazz/blues & classical mixed in. For all other instruments I am very well versed in blues, rock, pop, alternative, rockabilly, folk, a bit of jazz/country/bluegrass. Whatever you want to learn, I can make it happen for you!! I am a very patient teacher, and know how to get you playing your favorite songs quickly & easily! My lessons are customized to you- so if you'd like to get better at soloing/improvising, learn music theory, how to read music, or just play that favorite song or instrument you've always wanted to, I can get you there quick. For beginning students I can help get your familiar with your instrument, learn basic chords/music theory, beginning scales, reading music (if that's your preference), how to efficiently practice to produce results, tricks to get you playing quicker, & learning your favorite songs by the 2nd lesson! For intermediate students I go over more sophisticated chord shapes, more in-depth music theory, playing arpeggios & learning to improvise, chord inversions (don't worry if you don't know what that is, I'll explain!), learning more complex songs of your choosing. For my advanced students I help you with voice leading, better chord shapes, improving your soloing/improvisation skills/phrasing, more complicated scales & songs of your choosing. I do Skype lessons over the internet. I give 30 minute, 45 minute & 1 hour lessons. Contact me for available hours, & let's get you off to where you want to go! -Jessica 🎶🎸🎹

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Please see my introduction for pricing and discounts.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I first assess what knowledge level the student has acquired about playing music, then we talk about what they want to get out of their lessons/what goals they would like to achieve (i.e playing as a hobby, learning their favorite songs, reading music, developing soloing techniques, etc). We then proceed to start working on those goals immediately- it's most important to me that you get what you want out of your lessons, and that you have a good time while doing it!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a music degree from University California State Fullerton. I have been teaching professionally for 18 years, and playing music professionally for 23 years.
