About this pro

How does your business stand out?

My work stands out for three reasons: 1) I have traveled the world of the professional classical music scene, and 2) I'm able to translate the lessons learned from this time to something applicable to people of all ability levels. 3) My main interest is PEOPLE. Music is just the medium I work through to help people.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love seeing what makes everyone a different, unique individual, and finding out that we all deal with the same issues. I love doing this while singing/playing LOUDLY and with ABANDON!

I originally was looking to find a voice instructor for my husband as a surprise birthday present, so I was very anxious going into the process of choosing one. John was always very personable, while remaining professional. I always received a response quickly, as well as always felt respected and important. My husband has only had 2 sessions, but he's having a good time and learning things, AND that says a lot, cause he's a VERY PICKY man, as well as knowledable and talented!! He wouldn't be scheduling future sessions unless he was content!! I'd definately recommend John!!

John has been a very special presence in my life! He has been very successful in helping me to feel more comfortable in my own personhood. I recently lost my Mom, and, through his encouragement to be aware of my breathing, I have begun to heal from this loss. John will cover the most extraordinary range of music with me! Both contemporary (pop), show tunes and classical. He has helped me with making smoother transitions between my three registers (chest, head and very high head -- I don't know what that's called!) He has a wonderful sense of humor and I look forward to working with him for a very long time!

John is amazing. I have been taking voice lesson for the past five months and have experienced significant improvement such that it has been noticeable to others. I had been singing in choirs my whole life. John has helped me to deconstruct my old habits, and while building up a powerful new voice in ways I never thought possible. John is also tuned into the big picture of who I am as a person, which has led to some strikingly accurate diagnosis around breathing and "holding back." By his very nature, he is very humble, unassuming, kind and supportive—with all the access to musical greatness without any of the snobbery. I feel so lucky! :)

John is an amazing teacher. He’s endlessly inventive in addressing technical voice issues while keeping the joy and fun of singing. He has a gift for creating a safe space for you to express yourself in music, to work with it, play with it, love it. I recommend John to anyone, beginner or advanced, who wants to find and nurture the music within.

John has bee coaching me for a year in vocal performance. He uses what I consider a holistic approach to teaching - body, mind, and spirit. He is very encouraging and patient. I highly recommend John

John helped me renew my belief that I am a CREATIVE and EXPANSIVE human. I always said that I had no musical talent, because I didn't take lessons as a kid. In just four lessons, I already have a new creative practice that I wake up to. Thank you, John. I recommend any one who is needing to get in touch with their creative selves. ♥

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$60/hour lesson - $30/30min lesson After the initial lesson, We come to a mutual agreement about how long and how often lessons should be, then I ask for students to commit to this lesson plan for a certain number of months, with payments due at the beginning of each month. The only way to see progress is to be consistent for a period of time. For Summer 2017 I'm asking students to commit to a 5-lesson package. The summer months are a good time to buckle down and study, but it is also a busy time with travel and variable schedules. Committing to 5 sessions allows us to set a curriculum for the summer months.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I still travel to perform to keep my own skills sharp and to keep my pulse on the current scene in classical vocal music. I have many voice teacher friends with whom I refine my own singing skills and discuss methods for helping our students. I've also recently completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training program. The connection of breath and body is so helpful for singing. "Yoga for singers" is a new and growing field that I'm very interested in.
