FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I love writing. I love reading. I soak up fiction and non-fiction like a sponge tossed in a pool. I learn quickly, and I love to learn. Like that sponge loves water. I like trying new types of writing, and I like honing things that are already written, transforming them into their best possible outcome. I like bridging the gap between initial idea and reader's eyeball. Creation. Education. Entertainment. Information Dissimentation. THey are branches of the same. I started writing at a young age, and I simply haven't looked back.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Consider not only what you want your document to say, but who you need the document to speak to. We speak differently depending on the context, and writing is the same way. The best writer for the job is not necessarily the writer with the most knowledge of the type of business you are conducting, but the one that can put it in "plain English" for the audience and customer base you are aiming to reach.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
In order to be a writer in the 21st century you have to be a small-business owner. A lot of people think that writing is a purely creative effort and writers sometimes seem to be depicted as loners fighting depression, alcohol and writers' block. But in reality, writing is only partially creative. Yes, that is generally the part we writers fall in love with. But those of us who want to see a career, a life, built on our craft have to spend time learning how to market ourselves and our writing, networking with other writers and with readers, understanding the place of sites like Kickstarter, acquiring html and SEO knowledge, editing, project management, event planning, and understanding the role of artists, graphic designers and PR specialists in making a novel idea a reality. That doesn't even make a book successful. Moreover, to be a writer, you have to focus on more than the next great idea. You have to enjoy writing that can make money almost as much as writing for artistic expression.
