We’ve tried several but had to stop for various reasons, including scheduling conflicts, teaching style, etc. A friend recommended I try Thumbtack and I am so glad I did. Jorie has been teaching my son and daughter for a year now (unfortunately most of it on Zoom) but even with that added challenge, they are doing so well. She is the perfect fit for them. They are learning so much AND having fun. It’s not the traditional sequence of songs learned that I had as a child, but that’s the point - that doesn’t always work for everyone and it wouldn’t for my kids. I want them to learn music so they can appreciate the arts and have a way to express themselves creatively. And she is helping them do that. Yes, I still have to be on top of them to practice but they love her as a teacher and I am so thankful. No reservations and my highest recommendation!!!!"See more

Scott E. says, "I've played guitar off and on since my teens, but was self-taught. I had the basic skills to play along with most songs, but no understanding of how to build a song or a melody. In the year I've spent with Jeff, he opened my eyes to music theory in a way that is instantly applicable. I am much more comfortable improvising around a chord progression. I can see the patterns in songs and how and when to utilize different scales and modes. Jeff's book with Schell Barkley, Fingering Mastery - scales and modes for the guitar fretboard, demystifies these topics with images and patterns that are different from any other theory book I've seen. His backing tracks provide the foundation to apply these patterns, and his demonstrations during lessons bring them together using examples from standards and popular songs. Last thing - Jeff has an incredibly strong understanding of world music and music history, much of which is earned through decades of playing live music around the world. I find this adds a lot to the experience of a lesson with him. I recommend Jeff without reservation."See more

I had no expectations going in, I am fully aware of how young that is to try jumping into a difficult instrument. What I didn't expect was how flexible and creative Jason (That's the instructors actual name) would be. They created crafts and graphs and artwork that taught parts of the guitar, chord patterns and all sorts of things with construction paper. My boy loves it. Its kept him engaged with the instrument and Jason is tailoring songs that he likes to be easy for him."See more
