Introduction: Hello, wonderful people of San Diego! My name is Michael and I recently moved from New York to help the amazing people of this city achieve their health and fitness goals. If the thought of going to the gym makes you want to curl up in a ball, I’ll get you hooked on the increased strength, vitality, and confidence that you’ll gain from training. If the gym is already your temple, I’ll bring you training regimes that will develop new skills and get you past your plateaus. Our partnership will help you to live your healthiest, most vibrant life. In addition to my personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, I have a master’s degree in human evolution from the University of Cambridge (UK) that informs my approach to movement and nutrition. These principles will be applied to the design of a progressive training routine focused on achieving adaptations specific to your goals and biomechanics. We will work undisturbed in a private training facility with high spec equipment and no membership fees. We will use a blend of unique and highly effective training techniques from a variety of disciplines. We will look at the whole picture, including nutritional and other lifestyle changes that will help you achieve an enhanced state of being. Some of the methods my clients love include: - Advanced bodyweight training using gymnastics progressions and equipment. Gymnasts are ripped, right? That’s because gravity, when properly applied, can develop an amazing physique. - The Thai kickboxing art of Muay Thai. Have you ever left a dent in a heavy bag by throwing a kick? It is deeply satisfying and highly demanding metabolically. - Functional training. Using a mix of dynamic functional movements you build the power, agility, and responsiveness required to prevent injuries in training and every day life. - Video movement analysis. A detailed breakdown of your form during certain exercises, as well as of your static posture, will help us to improve your biomechanics and reverse some of the maladaptive effects of our modern lifestyle. I speak Portuguese and Spanish.

Michael was an awesome personal trainer! He’s super easy to work with, and will accommodate circumstances to ensure you have the chance to reach your goals. We really looked forward to getting the chance to train with him, and will definitely be contacting him again! Highly recommended.

Personal Training

Michael is the best! I trained with him for four months up until my wedding. He helped me regain the confidence in myself that I had lost over the course of quarantine. He’s very thoughtful and does a great job at making the workouts fun. I felt beautiful on my wedding day and I was so happy to see results so quickly. He taught me a lot about exercise and the human body, and while I was originally focused on losing weight, my priorities have shifted to gaining strength. I feel the best I’ve felt in a long time and I highly recommend him!

Personal Training

I am not sure where to start because there are so many things I like and appreciate when it comes to working with Michael. I have worked with a few other personal trainers and know that engaging a personal trainer is a commitment. They become very involved in your life and goals, so it is important to find a good one that suits your specific style and needs. I can confidently say Michael is a good one. He is reliable, knowledgeable, professional, and a genuinely fabulous person to know. I have been beyond satisfied with the results I have seen since working with Michael, and those results go far beyond our weekly sessions. He inspires improvements in all areas on my journey towards health, fitness, and longevity. I look forward to my continued work with Michael and sincerely recommend his services.

Personal Training

After reading the reviews about Michael, I decided to give him a try and can say that he has truly been a consummate professional! I went to him wanting a challenge and to be pushed beyond my day to day routine. I left with a clearer idea of how to properly adjust and use my body to get more out of what I’m doing and a better way of tracking my food intake. He took my specific requests and made a day to day plan tailored around my strengths and weakness. His charming personality, ability to motivate, punctuality, and combined approach of teaching/training all made for a great experience! Highly recommended!

Personal Training

Working with Michael has been an awesome experience. He is very knowledgeable about the whole fitness spectrum, from nutrition to weight lifting. I always feel like he cares about helping me attain the level of health to which I strive. Even in just the past 2 months I have seen some amazing results. I have really enjoyed doing body weight exercises on the gymnastic rings. Michael knows a whole host of exercises at varying levels of difficulty. It has also been a lot of fun learning the basics of Muay Thai boxing. I would not hesitate to recommend Michael. He is an awesome personal trainer.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

As a general rule, the more frequently we see one another and the longer your commitment, the better rates I can offer. With that said, I want everyone interested in training with me to be able to do so. When we sit down together to discuss your goals and get to know one another, we'll take a look at different pricing options and find a way to make things work.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Our first meeting will be a free one hour consultation. We will discuss your specific health and fitness objectives, any past injuries or health conditions that we need to take into consideration, the different types of exercise and workout routines that have (and have not) worked for you in the past, your approach to nutrition, and your own assessment of your physiological and cognitive health. We will discuss my approach to training and how we can develop a program specific to your needs and biology. In our first training session we will conduct a number of movement assessments. We will use video analysis software to analyze your biomechanics, so that you can see where you have developed compensations or other breakdowns in movement. Using that information, we will develop a program to correct any issues we have identified. This will help us to ensure longevity in your training and optimal biomechanics for life. Time allowing, we'll get to work on the floor!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I also have a master's degree in Human Evolution from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. My research examined our ability to use cognitive techniques to mitigate physical pain. I believe that we have a tremendous capacity to apply our minds in ways far beyond our current understanding, particularly with respect to physical adaptations. I apply this principle and other elements of evolutionary anthropology to training and nutrition.
