Working with Michael has been an awesome experience. He is very knowledgeable about the whole fitness spectrum, from nutrition to weight lifting. I always feel like he cares about helping me attain the level of health to which I strive. Even in just the past 2 months I have seen some amazing results. I have really enjoyed doing body weight exercises on the gymnastic rings. Michael knows a whole host of exercises at varying levels of difficulty. It has also been a lot of fun learning the basics of Muay Thai boxing. I would not hesitate to recommend Michael. He is an awesome personal trainer.Apr 19, 2020Verified
I am not sure where to start because there are so many things I like and appreciate when it comes to working with Michael. I have worked with a few other personal trainers and know that engaging a personal trainer is a commitment. They become very involved in your life and goals, so it is important to find a good one that suits your specific style and needs. I can confidently say Michael is a good one. He is reliable, knowledgeable, professional, and a genuinely fabulous person to know. I have been beyond satisfied with the results I have seen since working with Michael, and those results go far beyond our weekly sessions. He inspires improvements in all areas on my journey towards health, fitness, and longevity. I look forward to my continued work with Michael and sincerely recommend his services.May 14, 2020Verified
I was referred to Michael through a friend who did triathlon training with him. She had a great experience with Michael, said he was super knowledgeable and a great motivator, which was exactly what I needed. I honestly have never been a gym person. In fact I’ve always kind of dreaded the idea. But Michael showed me that the gym was only one part of staying healthy and that there was no reason to be intimidated. We worked on a lot of things, including nutrition, posture stuff, even mindset. I’ve gotten way stronger, significantly reduced body fat, have increased range of motion in almost all of my joints, and generally just feel like I have heaps more energy day to day. It’s hard to say exactly when it happened, but now I look forward to going to the gym. The workouts that Michael comes up with are always fun and interesting, so I’m always excited to see what we’re going to do that day. I’m so bummed that he left NY! But I get it. I mean, San Diego. He’s referred me to some other trainers here in NY, but it’s not the same. I know I’ll have to cut the umbilical cord at some point, but I’m not ready. We still do online sessions. If you’re reading this review, don’t look any further. Michael will be the best personal trainer you’ll find.Feb 20, 2020Verified
Michael is exactly what I was looking for in a personal trainer. If I’m honest I was a little intimidated to start personal training. But Michael is always right behind me, cheering me on throughout the whole workout. There’s no mistaking the fact that he really cares about his clients. He pays attention to everything you’re doing while you train, but also helps you to see where certain habits outside of the gym might be getting in the way of your progress. It’s super personal(IZED) training. Every workout is designed to help me achieve the goals that we spoke about right at the beginning. I’ve been working out for a while now, and I know what a cookie cutter workout looks like. He doesn’t do that. 5 stars all the way!Feb 25, 2020Verified
I've worked w/ a number of personal trainers and had mixed reviews w/ a lot or my experiences. To be clear, Michael was excellent and I'll continue working w/ him. Generally speaking, I have a lot of questions and like to get detailed answers about why I'm doing a particular exercise, what muscles it's working, what the best number of sets and rep range is and why. I also like to know about the science behind nutrition. Why are some foods better for certain things? What's the best macronutrient breakdown. Michael has answers to all of my questions and loves to talk about this stuff. He's always happy to go into as much detail as I want. And he never complains when I contact him with questions outside of the gym. Sometimes I'll hit him when I'm at the farmer's market to see what he thinks about a certain food. He's super available and an amazing resource for total health. Couldn't recommend him more.Feb 24, 2020Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? As a general rule, the more frequently we see one another and the longer your commitment, the better rates I can offer. With that said, I want everyone interested in training with me to be able to do so. When we sit down together to discuss your goals and get to know one another, we'll take a look at different pricing options and find a way to make things work.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? Our first meeting will be a free one hour consultation. We will discuss your specific health and fitness objectives, any past injuries or health conditions that we need to take into consideration, the different types of exercise and workout routines that have (and have not) worked for you in the past, your approach to nutrition, and your own assessment of your physiological and cognitive health. We will discuss my approach to training and how we can develop a program specific to your needs and biology. In our first training session we will conduct a number of movement assessments. We will use video analysis software to analyze your biomechanics, so that you can see where you have developed compensations or other breakdowns in movement. Using that information, we will develop a program to correct any issues we have identified. This will help us to ensure longevity in your training and optimal biomechanics for life. Time allowing, we'll get to work on the floor!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I also have a master's degree in Human Evolution from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. My research examined our ability to use cognitive techniques to mitigate physical pain. I believe that we have a tremendous capacity to apply our minds in ways far beyond our current understanding, particularly with respect to physical adaptations. I apply this principle and other elements of evolutionary anthropology to training and nutrition.
