- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly taking continuing education courses to keep abreast of the latest changes in estate planning law and to make myself an even better estate planning attorney.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I became an estate planning attorney in 2009 after my best friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and I helped him with his estate plan. Getting my friend's financial and personal affairs in order brought him a great deal of peace even in the midst of the turmoil of his illness. This was the single most moving experience of my life.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common job I do for clients is creating their will, revocable trust, financial power of attorney and advance health care directive, and then assist them with transferring their assets into the trust. In detail, I do this job in the following manner: First, the client has a lengthy discussion with me to determine if they want to hire me. Second, I ask some basic questions about the the complexity and value of the client's assets so I can tell them what my flat fee rate will be for them. Third, if the client hires me, I generate a customized questionnaire for them fill out, which provides me with a great foundation for creating the client's estate plan. Fourth, I have personal discussion with the client to tailor their estate plan to their particular needs and wishes. Fifth, I create a draft of the client's will, revocable trust, financial power of attorney and advance health care directive. Sixth, I review the drafts with the client to make sure they understand them and to get feedback for revisions. Seventh, once the client is satisfied with the documents, we execute them. Eighth, I assist the client with the complex and essential process of transferring their assets into the their trust.
