Introduction: As a passionate educator and performer, I am confident that I can help you reach your musical goals. Whether the flute is a hobby that gives you joy, or if it is a more serious passion and competitions/auditions are in your future, I am happy to guide you and be with you on your journey. In our lessons you will: 1) have fun playing flute, where we can work together to find and play music that interests you! 2) get help on your band music, or band audition materials so you can get into that top band at your school. 3) learn basic music theory and music history, as we delve into our music. 4) develop beautiful tone and effortless technique on the instrument. 5) perform solo/duet repertoire from the vast flute literature. 6) get more confident in front of an audience. 7) develop healthy routine habits through practicing for our lessons. I am a graduate of my Masters in Flute Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The flute has been a part of my life since my early grade school days, and am so excited to share my love for this instrument, my love for music, with you. I like to keep my lessons fresh and exciting but also challenging! I do have a curriculum that I do follow, but of course, catering to your goals and needs is of the utmost importance. I offer one-on-one lessons on flute and piccolo for all levels. I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can message me with any questions about my rates, teaching philosophy, musical background, etc. Thank you!

Joyce has been teaching my 9 year daughter flute for just about a year. During that time, my daughter has learned so much about the flute and music in general. Joyce is a pleasure to work with for both kids and parents, She is fun and understanding of kids' personalities but she challenges our daughter to go beyond just the lessons each week. Whether in person or online, Joyce is a true professional with a wonderfully positive attitude.

I've gotten so much value out of my lessons with Joyce! Even within my first few lessons, I found such an improvement in my playing because of her help. I also really appreciate her willingness to help me move toward my personal goals, and working on both school and solo pieces. She's always encouraging (even when I don't make as much progress) and offers advice on multiple different ways to improve. I look up to her skill level, and am glad to take lessons with her!

I have been learning flute with Joyce for almost half of year now. She is a very patient and passionate teacher, who always accommodate my skills and efforts in learning the flute. Her teaching style is very empowering and gentle. I am a 20+ years old grown adult who have very minimum experience in music (but I really like listening the flute and playing it). Since music is really something that totally out of my knowledge, I am really nervous, almost scared, while I am learning my flute. Sometimes my tones and sounds get worse and worse if I didn’t play well for the first try (and I would keep apologizing as well haha) but Joyce stays calm and gentle, teach me skills to calm down while playing instrument, and never yell at me for that lol. I really appreciate her style of teaching, it encourages me to continue to learn the flute!
