A Great first impression and very well-run business! I had originally found they great folks on Thumbtack; after reading about the very positive reviews they have on Thumb Tack, I decided to give them a try as I was looking for a very affordable solution to my previous HVAC Installer and Maintenance service company. Straight Shooter was very accommodating with scheduling availability. I booked an appt and received a few text messages for confirmation of service date an a reminder 24 prior to the appt date. (Love it when Communication works) Aaron called about 30 minutes in advance to make sure I was home and advised that he would be arriving in about 15-20 Which was right in line with the 11:00-12:00 appt time. I was more than impressed with Aaron's professionalism and knowledge, he asked me a few questions and then he dove right into the service and inspection he made some very helpful mentions about some option items that could be added to my system after I explained that my wife sufferer from allergies and keeping the air quality in our home was important. Aaron explained how each alternative item could enhance the air quality Absolutely ("ZERO" Pressure to do anything beyond the scope of what was discussed for this service visit. I truly appreciated that as I think most people would. We all know the SHYSTERS in this industry and these folks are not part of that mentality. These folks are more about capturing a customer and maintaining a long-term positive relationship with the people they serve. Straight Shooter is all in their name because that was the experience I received and I'm sure you will as well. "It's how they run their business" Props to Aaron! Great job sir, I very much appreciated the time and service you provided you're truly a solid professional backed by honesty and integrity! Many Blessings and prosperity to you and Straight Shooter going forward.

We're glad you gave Straight Shooter Heating & Cooling a chance and that Aaron provided the kind of service, communication, and professionalism we strive for every day. We believe homeowners deserve honest recommendations without pressure, and we're happy to hear that came through during your visit.
It's especially rewarding to know Aaron was able to address your concerns about indoor air quality and explain options that could help your family, while keeping the focus on what was best for your needs. Your comments about integrity, communication, and building long-term relationships mean a lot to our entire team. Thank you again for your trust, support, and kind words. We look forward to being your HVAC team for years to come!

Aaron was fantastic! Incredibly helpful in troubleshooting the issue with our unit and finding a solution to ensure we’d have the a/c back up and running before family came into town — during literally the hottest 2 weeks of the year in August. He was also very helpful in educating on the different parts so I could be more informed for maintenance, and provided tips and things to prepare for down the road with our unit’s particular brand. Highly recommend!

My AC unit went out during one of San Diego's hottest weeks and we were definitely feeling it at the house. I tinkered around with it and tried my best to troubleshoot, but to no avail. I got in touch with Straight Shooter and they sent a tech (Nick) out the next day to assess the problem. He initially diagnosed that the issue was a faulty thermostat as there was no power going from the controller to the unit. He installed a new Ecobee smart thermostat for me (which I love and completely recommend). After that, the unit started right back up. And you would think the story ends, there, but no, there was another issue yet to be discovered. Nick noticed that the air above the fan on the unit was really just ambient temperature, when it should be warmer than the air around it. He checked the coolant pressure on the unit and discovered it was completely empty. He then started taking off the cooling line housing that runs up the side of the house and into the attic and saw that the coolant was leaking out. I had just had the roof on the house redone earlier in the week and the AC went out while the roofers were working on it. Nick climbed up into the attic and discovered that the roofers had accidentally shot a nail through my cooling line, causing the AC to shut down. He took pictures, documented everything, and talked me through all the troubleshooting steps he had taken so I knew what was going on and how to explain it. He then encouraged me to reach out to the roofing company to see if it was something they would be willing to fix. I did just that and the roofing company sent their HVAC tech the next day to correct the problem. Nick was thorough, he was professional, and his attention to detail and documentation of his findings helped me explain the issue to the roofing company who fixed the problem at not extra charge to me. Nick was awesome and so is Straight Shooter. Fantastic customer service and expertise in their field. I will absolutely reach out to them in the future for any HVAC repairs or maintenance that I require.

Straight Shooter Heating And Cooling's reply
Hi Hillary,
Wow — thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. We’re so glad we could help get your A/C back up and running, especially during one of the hottest weeks in San Diego! It sounds like quite the situation, and we're really proud of the way Nick handled everything — from quickly identifying the thermostat issue to catching the hidden coolant leak and tracing it back to the roofing work.
His dedication to documenting the problem and walking you through each step is exactly the level of service we strive for, and it means a lot to hear how that helped you get the issue resolved without added stress or cost. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with him — he’ll appreciate them more than you know.
Thanks again for trusting Straight Shooter. We’re here whenever you need us!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We are about relationships and service. Every visit starts by listening to our clients and trying to understand their issues and needs. Based on those conversations we provide straight-forward, custom tailored options to fit your needs, desires, budget ,and timeline. There’s no pressure to buy, you decide what is right for you. We’re there to help and provide solutions that make your life a little bit more comfortable.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Appointment: We schedule a visit that works best for the client. We want to provide the proper time to perform a thorough diagnostic/inspection/estimate.
Ice Breaker: Upon arrival the technician introduces himself (and our team, if applicable). We spend a few minutes to get to know the client. During that time we ask questions to understand the issue, symptoms, and details of the situation.
Inspection: Once the technician understands the client’s issue, they perform a thorough and comprehensive inspection to find the cause of the issue. In the case of an estimate, they evaluate the entire living space and the habits of the client.
Debrief: After diagnosing the issue the technician sits down with the client to share his findings. They walk the client through the issue and the symptoms. For estimates, the tech will design several systems that meet the client’s needs and explain each one. This is also the time when they will field all questions.
Options: This is the time when the client chooses an option that works for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Almost 30 years of hands on diagnostic, repair and installation of HVAC systems, both commercial and residential. This includes working knowledge of many different equipment types and brands.
California HVAC License: Pass the exams and certification process for the State of California.
EPA License: Certification to properly handle refrigerants.
Ongoing training through dealer and manufacturer classes. This provides training on the latest equipment and technology.
