I have twenty years of experience as an editor. I've worked in house at several Bay Area publishing companies and know what publishers are looking for in a book project. I have studied the craft of writing and taken numerous editing classes. Since I am also a writer I am sensitive to the author's side of things as well as the editorial side. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Prices will vary considerably depending on the type of editing, writing or service. A general idea is copy editing .02/word, ghostwriting $1300/10,000 words, administrative tasks such as filing copyright, sending queries, agent/publisher searches $30/hour, manuscript evaluation and developmental editing priced individually (subject matter, manuscript condition, length, all influence these prices).
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We discuss the project. I like to find out what the author is looking for in the way of editing. I review the manuscript, and provide them with a sample edit. When I've done the sample edit I give them an estimate and we go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Creative Writing. I have a certificate in publishing from UC Berkeley, which was awarded with distinction.
