- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically price by the project, but sometimes my day rate is cheaper for you, depending on the project. I come with a sense of detail, vast experience, and creativity. For custom builds, I require a $350 design deposit up front to get started and to enter new projects into my build cue. My job minimum price is $150 (there may be exceptions to this depending on drive time and time I need to spend at the store). My day rate is $750-$1000 depending on the job. A deposit is typically due up front, and the remaining is due upon completion.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
1. We discuss the project so I can give you an accurate estimate. 2. We'll agree on an estimate, start and finish target dates/times, and you pay a deposit. 3. We finalize design and options. 4. I complete your build and any installation required. 5. You submit final payment, and hopefully leave a kind review. 6. I thank you, and hopefully earn your business again.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been around and working on job sites in my family's home-building business since I was in diapers. I started as a clean-up boy at age 10, and started swinging a hammer at age 12, when my dad had me help frame an apartment building. At 14, I was being trained in carpentry, flooring, while digging the occasional ditch. By age 16, I was helping build houses from the ground-up, installing wooden floors, designing, milling and installing custom hard wood moldings and had already been through the process of building several homes from breaking ground to handing off the keys to the owner. At age 20, I bought and built my first solo project, a duplex that I helped design and that my wife and I move into after we were married at age 21. After this, I was a foreman for our family business for multiple home building projects, helped train several other workers, and have overseen and completed numerous new home builds, remodels, renovations, and even the occasional odd-job (like restoring sailboats, or creating unique office environments). For the past 20 years, I have been starting new churches and focused on ministry, but have had several times when I got to use my building skills in the church to modernize worship spaces and build creative team collaboration workspaces. I have also kept up my skills by occasionally taking on renovation, cabinet or other jobs along the way. I am returning back to this line of work because I love it, and I see it as a great and unique way to continue to pursue my calling.
