Introduction: My roots as a professional musician go way back. I was a member of Rebel Train, an EastWest America band. I was a founding member of Lisa Hayes and the Violets, another major label artist (Atlantic Records). I recorded and toured with Gingersol (Trampoline Records) and BARDO. I have performed a number of times at SXSW and toured with widely respected country artist Heather Waters as part of a duo for two years, providing the sole instrumentation.
Although I have logged in countless hours in the studio, my playing is anything but slick and predictable. I favor the natural, unadorned sound of the traditional steel-string guitar. I developed an early love for American and European folk idioms when I first picked up the guitar at age eight. My reverence for finger style players like John Fahey and John Renbourn is accompanied by a love of artists as diverse as Robert Johnson and Doc Watson. I have also grown to love jazz artists like Wes Montgomery, Gabor Szabo and Johnny Smith. My approach to the guitar reflects his admiration for these great artists.
Pleasing an audience and making a connection with a listener is the best imaginable reward for doing my job right. When someone has a favorite song, to watch their eyes light up is an indication that I have done my job well. When people want to purchase My Cds, it means they want my performance on repeat for awhile, and that is very gratifying.
