Introduction: I have been providing professional photography services to the Salt Lake Metropolitan Area since 2006, and now the Northern California Region since 2014. While spending nearly a decade behind my camera and lens, I've found that I seem to have been drawn to a more inquisitive path in life. One that craves stopping to smell the roses frequently, to examine and experience the beauty in nature and the people around me. When I succumb to this desire I find this peacefulness that perpetuates my creative cycle. After serving 5 years in Japan and abroad for the Navy, I came back and decided to use that GI Bill for a degree in Visual Art & Design and Photography! During my training I came to realize that the world we live in is overflowing with more incredibly rich and visually interesting scenes than I had previously thought. I used to shoot landscapes and wildlife exclusively, but thanks to a wonderful instructor in my first semester for photography, I discovered a love for the studio and all the lighting techniques. But perhaps more importantly, I was introduced to the fulfillment of building unique, and genuine relationships with each of the wonderful people I've photographed. This feeling of connection has also prompted me to volunteer many days and hours to Help Portrait which has given me yet another special glimpse into these timeless moments. This is a dream that I'll never stop living! When it comes to creating an amazing image, I believe the key is a collaboratively comfortable environment. The respect and trust a photographer builds with their client is what allows for the collaboration to move forward seamlessly. It's my goal to become adept at encouraging this experience in front of my lens.

Travis Hougland of Hougland Imagery took photos for Golden State RC Crawlers (GSRCC), a non-prophet radio controlled rock crawling club, and helped raise money for the American Cancer Society. Travis spent about six hours at the GSRCC Crawl-for-a-cure event and another three full days (24 hours) at the GSRCC 2014 Championship! Travis was always professional, courteous, creative, intuitive, and extremely knowledgeable about the service he provided. Travis took great care about my own opinions, perspective, and input for each shot. I was impressed by the way Travis took the time to learn about GSRCC and the clubs vision to ensure that he would capture the best shot in every situation that would help promote the club, the hobby, and the industry. Both in the RC and photography community. Travis shared several shots during the shoot with me and asked me what I liked and didn't like about the shot and he would make immediate adjustments. Travis was flexible and opened minded to my photo preferences. I asked if Travis could get shots that were close to the ground and angled upward to create a different perspective that seemed larger than life and I asked for more in-motion shots. Travis delivered exactly what I envisioned, professional photos that went far beyond my expectations. Travis was able to get incredible shots of our clubs RC events! Travis went far above and beyond my expectations. Travis was always on time, organized, and the quality of work was better than my expectations or my imagination. I have used other photography services in the past, and never had a better experience than with Hougland Imagery. Nothing went wrong, and I cannot think of anything that could have made my experience better! True photography genius in the industry! Great job!!

When I first met Travis, he came across confident and charismatic, very easy going. His equipment was better and more creative than many of the photographers at the event. Later, we arranged another shoot. He was so well prepared and so professional. And most important just easy to be around. Different than other photographers I've been around, he's not afraid to offer suggestions and position details. Many photographers just point and click relying almost completely on the model, but he would readily jump in to amend details the model could not always see. Professional quality and post processing. We arranged a third group event, where he also went above and beyond, many of the photos are still used promotionally and have the highest viewership. I actually can't wait to shoot with him again!

Travis is a fantastic photographer. His lighting is often dramatic; Always lovely. Clear shots, great angles. He truly has an eye for fine art. He is great to work with - good humored, professional and easy to be around! You will enjoy his company as much as his photos.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My general sitting fee is $100.00/hr. Prints are extremely affordable and separate from the sitting fee, as there are many options available to fit your specific needs.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When it comes to creating an amazing image, I believe the key is a collaboratively comfortable environment. Typically I prefer to meet with a client to chat about what they would like to see in the finished product, and then schedule a shoot date.
