Really enjoyed my experience. I was impressed by how well Susan takes care of her horses. There is definitely a family environment to the barn and the people were warm and friendly.

Good trainer who works with you at the level where you are.
Sue is a really good trainer for me. She works with me at my level and has goals and timelines for me to work toward and the progress I'm making is tangible. She teaches horsemanship so expect to saddle your own horse and groom him before putting him up. Soup to nuts training. She doesn't mince words and is very direct but the atmosphere in her barn is positive and the other riders are very supportive of each other, which is clearly due to the environment Sue has created. This is much nicer than some other places I checked out. I watched her work with other riders and she gives her attention to them and focuses on the individual and what they need which is great. This is another thing that makes her different than my recent experience where trainers may not want to work with you if you are just starting out.

I started taking lessons with Susan after about 3 month of lessons at another barn and I am very happy. In one lesson she taught me to do what the other place couldn't in a month. If you want to learn, grow and get better, this is your place. Highly recommend.

Susan Friend has taken great care of my horse for a number of years now. I completely trust and respect her horsemanship skills. She's also been an outstanding coach and trainer, bringing me an my horse to a whole new level of riding. I highly recommend her to anyone, whether you're a first time rider or experienced eventer.

I started taking lessons with Susan about three and a half years ago as a complete beginner. I do not own my own horse, but use Susan's lesson horses. At the time, my goal was to be able to ride well enough to participate in equestrian vacations. What I love about Susan is that she takes a rider through all phases of horsemanship, not just riding, but everything from the ground up, with an emphasis on safety and leadership. Now I've been on several riding vacations--a life long dream come true for me! Over the last year or so I have been learning the various phases of eventing, from dressage to stadium jumping to cross country. Susan is knowledgeable in all these areas. One of the things I like best about Goldspirit Farm is the relaxed and homey atmosphere. I have made many friends there, human, equine, and canine!

My children and I started lessons with Susan just over a year ago, and love it so much we recently bought our own pony to board at Goldspirit. The family atmosphere at the barn is wonderful and we all have made many new friends. The kids really look forward to the Pony Club sessions and participating with other kids who also love horses. I've been amazed by how much we've all learned in such a short time. That is certainly a credit to Susan and her teaching methods. As a boarding facility, it is also top notch. Our pony never had it so good. We love Goldspirit!

I've worked and taken lessons at multiple barns since I moved to Los Angeles two years ago. GSF has become my home away from home. The facility is amazing (not at all what you would expect in Los Angeles). It's not just the wonderful instruction and dedicated trainer that I learn so much from, but the boarders and barn staff have become family in a way to me. Everyone greeted me with smiles when I first arrived and everyone wants to see everyone riding their best and having fun. The entire environment is about discovering improvement for both horses and people. I'm so excited it's now a Pony Club riding center as well. PC'er's need a great facility like GSF with xcountry in Los Angeles. The horses receive the best care in Los Angeles here my opinion, with the full gallop track, large turnout and staff and riders that are taught horse management and attention to detail.

I have been riding at Goldspirit Farm for about a year and a half. When I got there I could barely jump two feet without ending up on the horses's neck. Now I can confidently jump 3ft and placed at my first two eventing competitions. Susan is a great instructor and a even better horse person. The barn has a great atmoshere. We have derby days with potlucks. There are so many jumps and different configurations you can never get bored. Highly recommend checking it out!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
always! I continue to ride with top instructors; I read, and I constantly learn by teaching others.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always loved horses and I had an opportunity to purchase a farm and live my dream. Who would not want to do that?!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Teach horseback all levels. Train all levels. As a certified ICP USEA instructor my training has a great foundation and is based on safety, respect for the horse and rider, and having fun!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I have a new student, who is not new to jumping, that was just introduced into the world of eventing with 2 cross country lessons. She had a blast and never knew how fun eventing was!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Safety first! Be sure you have a trainer that is thorough in teaching the basics of balance and leadership. Look for a trainer that is ICP certified. For children: get them involved in pony club! It is a great program
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I run my business with integrity. It is important to me that I do what I say I will; I do not swindle, deceive or lie to my clients. With horses, safety first is the most important thing. I teach all my riders that safety comes from balance and leadership. We have a safe, fun, relaxing place at Goldspirit farm because of these two ideals that are important to me.
