Introduction: Welcome to Coaching with Heather Rafael. Coaching for those who refuse to see themselves as anything less than extraordinary. There are so many people who are desiring more, but many never take action. But that’s not you. Something within you knows that you’re an extraordinary being who desires to live an extraordinary life. And here, that’s how you will learn to see yourself. And when you see yourself differently, the world reflects it back to you.
Right now you’re probably filled with excitement about the possibility of your future, but you’re also probably feeling a lot of doubt. I want to assure you that this is normal. Doubt, fear, worry, and skepticism are all parts of you that want to keep you small and familiar. So if you’re experiencing any of this, I want you to know that nothing has gone wrong. In fact, you’re right on track. These are the parts of yourself that you’re going to have to navigate in order to elevate your self image to extraordinary.
The process of changing your self image is the most important work you will ever do, because you can only create to the edge of what your self image allows. This is why change is often so difficult. We try to take a lot of action without ever changing who we are being. For example, maybe you try to grow your business, and you never seem able to get past a certain point, because that’s where your self image is stuck. Or let’s talk about weight loss, something that I know a lot about. I know when I used to go on diets and try new exercise programs or the latest tricks to losing weight, but I always seemed to come back to this number on the scale, and that was because of my self image. When you change how you see yourself, life begins to reflect it back to you.
So as you embark on this amazing journey of elevating your self image, I want to offer you three simple suggestions as to how to go about this journey. Number one, always, always be kind to yourself. Beating ourselves up is not an option. As the famous psychologist Carl Rogers said, the curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. The second thing is, I want you to be curious about yourself. This is a journey of getting to know yourself at the deepest level. Why you think that the way you do, why you do what you do, what you love, what lights you up, what turns you on, what you’re being drawn to and repelled by. The answers to these types of questions will guide you in elevating your self image. So I want you to stay open and curious. Finally, I want you to go at your own pace. I am a big believer that the best way to improve your life is to enjoy the life you have right now. And the irony is that when you slow things down, you often start moving towards what you desire much more quickly. Life is not a race, my friend. It’s a process of discovery. So please borrow one of my favorite, favorite mantras, which is, “there is no hurry.” So slow things down and stop trying to reach some finish line. I want you to take this seriously and be committed, but do not use this experience as a way to beat yourself up and gather evidence for how you’re not doing enough. You’re doing amazing right now. And what if you’re only getting better?
That's it. Listen, I know change is hard, and it’s challenging, but what if it can also be a blast? I think that’s why I’ve been able to change and evolve so much of my life. I see it as this fun journey of getting to know myself and to see what’s possible. And it’s one that I’m so glad that we’re on together. I’m thankful that you’re here, and I want you to know I’ve got you. I’m going to support you in seeing your greatness. I’m going to challenge you to show up on purpose. I refuse to see you as anything less than extraordinary. We are individuals committed to living our lives as art.
Here’s to you and your best life!
