About
Our Neutral is the mediation practice of Michelle C. Ross, a former administrative law judge and attorney with 26 years of experience. I help people resolve disputes without going to court, including divorce and family matters, business and commercial disputes, employment issues, and real estate and lease conflicts. As a neutral, I don't represent either side. I help both of you reach an agreement you can live with, usually faster and at lower cost than going to court. I mediate in person in the Santa Clarita Valley and remotely by video. Every matter starts with a free 30-minute consultation, and most mediations are a flat fee.

Michelle is excellent at settling disputes out of court. She has assisted me with both workers comp issues and tenancy issues. I highly recommend her as a mediator or to make a demand on parties before turning to litigation.

I came to Michelle for legal advice while going through a divorce this past year. Michelle is very knowledgeable and great to work with. She helped me navigate through all the legal jargon and terminology when my ex-wife’s attorney would send me proposals and try to sneak things in the deal that were not easily understood by the common man; attorney language. I would recommend Michelle to anyone seeking out legal advice at a very fair rate.

Michelle drafted a residential lease for us. She was quick, to the point, and very affordable. I highly recommend Michelle for any contract drafting, negotiation, or review.
FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Every dispute is different, so the approach is tailored to what your situation actually requires—sometimes a few structured calls back and forth, sometimes a longer video or in-person session. I will explain the options clearly after the free consultation so you can decide what works best before anything moves forward. I find that a flat fee usually works best so that the parties are clear as to cost.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It starts with a free 30-minute call so I can understand the dispute and explain how mediation works. If both parties agree to mediate, I hold private prep conversations, gather the key documents, and then conduct the mediation by phone, video, or in person. Most matters resolve in hours, days or weeks rather than the years litigation can take. The important thing for all parties to understand is that a mediator is not your lawyer - the mediator does not advocate for one side or the other. In fact, you can involve your lawyer in the process if you have one.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law and a B.A. from USC, and I am admitted to practice in California and Texas. Beyond formal education, my years as a former Administrative Law Judge and as a restructuring attorney at national firms gave me deep practical training in reading people, spotting the real issues, and closing difficult settlements. I have extensive experience on the business side as well - as a CEO and Board of Directors member - which gives me deep insight into helping parties resolve business challenges.
