Introduction: I am a one-stop shop for all of your college preparation needs. I've been through six cycles of college applications following completion of UCLA Extension's College Counseling program. I've tutored SATs and ACTs for almost a decade, and I have a very solid track record of improved scores. I majored in creative writing in college and worked as an editor in the publishing world, so college essays and personal statements are my bread and butter. I've been a working actor and filmmaker, so I know the process of pitching yourself and presenting a portfolio of your work. You name it...I've done it. Nick strikes a great balance as a counselor and tutor. Though he's incredibly knowledgable in his field, he retains a certain approachability, a down to earth quality, that renders meeting with him simultaneously productive and enjoyable. I used to dread working on my college applications and studying for my ACT, but by being a tutor AND a friend, Nick made the whole process a lot less of a chore. With his help, i got into my dream program at New York University and am incredibly excited for the fall. College Prep and Education and general need more folks like Nick Soper.

With Nick's help my daughter was accepted to the UCLA school of Theatre Film and Television, majoring in Musical Theatre! The application deadlines were approaching, and she was having trouble getting started on the all important essays. With his coaching she was inspired to write some amazing essays, making each one unique to the school she was applying to. Nick is so easy-going and very knowledgable, and he truly cares. My daughter very much enjoyed working with him! He even went "above and beyond" by putting her in touch with people he knew who attended the schools she was applying to. Nick is miracle worker! He re-taught me math in 5 weeks and I scored well on my GRE and got into a very competitive graduate school program. Nick was very patient and was able to explain the concepts clearly so that I was able to understand. It took a very special talent since I had not studied math in over 30 years. I offer a range of services, from a la carte hourly work on specific aspects of the college-application process, to an all-included package.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It's very important to determine first if we're going to be the right fit. Contact me and we can set up a complimentary call via Zoom to talk about your needs, your goals, and how we might best work together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm an active member of the Western Association for College Admissions Counselors as well as the Higher Education Consultants Association. I was a Creative Writing major at Northwestern University, and afterward, I worked in publishing and got my certificate in manuscript editing. I was originally trained to teach the SAT with Kaplan, and continued tutoring for several years with another local Los Angeles company, Catalyst. I completed my practicum for the UCLA Extension College Counseling certificate program in 2013 while working in the college counseling offices of Santa Monica and Malibu High Schools.
