About

I use a very personable approach that allows me to constantly adapt to my students needs. I specifically believe in building up people's confidence. Because I have learned several languages myself, at various levels, I know very well what holds us back in feeling that we can actually apply the language(s) we have learned in a class setting. This is why I am also complementing one-on-one & class methods with the immersion activities I propose in my club, Le Petit Ensemble. There, people can loosen up, and focus on other things, rather than remaining too self-aware of their insecurity with the language. Meeting new people, from different cultures and backgrounds, is naturally the most exciting aspect of my work. To me, languages are definitely a communication tool, enabling us to have conversations, exchanges, relationships with a larger variety of people. I love to hear my students' stories and what their own objectives are, in learning a new language.

Florence is a wonderful teacher whether in a group or one on one. I have been studying French with Florence for several years and am continually impressed at her ability to adapt lessons to fit each persons individual needs. She has such patience and exhibits such compassion with what she does, that it helps me continue on with my studies and I trust the process. Since she is originally from France, she shares what life is like in France through the culture, food, and customs of France. I can't wait to go to more of the group activities in Le Petit Ensemble. J'adore Florence! Florence not only welcomes you into her home with its charming garden and artworks. She welcomes you into her warm knowledgeable enthusiasm for teaching and students. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is very simple regarding the private sessions: $85 for an hour and a half of full tutoring (grammar, vocabulary, etc., with homework), $75 for an hour and a half of relaxed conversation. The activities of Le Petit Ensemble do vary, depending on costs for us. They can all be found on my website: lepetitensemble.fr People can also ask to be added on my mailing list, and they will receive our mailings, including our beautiful monthly newsletter, all in French!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It all start with a meeting in person at no charge for the student or online if that is their choice. The purpose of this first meeting is to help the student in expressing their needs, and establishing the approach, meeting times and material appropriate for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
After I graduated in Philosophy, my first career was that of a publisher. Currently, I also practice as a translator. Through those 3 experiences, I acquired the tools necessary to navigate the written world on a professional level. During my years as a publisher, I started teaching illiterate adult classes, and developed a passion for adult instruction. Which led me to obtain a diploma as Teacher of French As a Second Language from the French University. My ongoing training is now taking place on 2 levels: - as an instructor, staying tuned to my students needs and learning experiences, - as a student, regularly learning new languages as soon as I find the time for it. These constitute a true continuing education!
