Introduction: Cellar Door Farm is a full service hunter/jumper/eq barn located in Bell Canyon, CA. We seek to build mutual trust and improve the overall connection between horse and rider, and pay keen attention to the biomechanic correctness of the horse - how their bodies are placed, and how their energy is used in order to maximize athletic potential and minimize musculoskeletal strain, in effect riding for soundness as well as performance. Cellar Door Farm is a place where first and foremost, we love horses. We enjoy spending time with like-minded riders in a supportive, team-oriented environment, and understand that true success in the show ring is the result of a successful program at home - where working to become the best riders we can be, and providing ethical training, optimal nutrition, and attention to soundness for our horses are our top priorities. While our horses are our athletic partners, we recognize that they are above all horses and seek to give them a life with their biology and psychology in mind - longer turnouts for socializing, slow feeding haynets that extend time spent digesting food to optimize gut health and motility, and targeted, customized nutrition based on rounding out what hay provides and what the demands of their athletic lifestyle depletes. These are just a few of the ways we go above and beyond for the animals in our care and training- so they can go above and beyond for us in the show ring. At Cellar Door, we love horses. Aiding a horse and rider to strengthen communication, seeing them become a team, have conversations, and succeed together at any level is immensely rewarding. Helping a rider understand a horse, making them each feel heard and understood, as well as taken care of, is our highest goal, and our greatest reward.

Clear, consistent prompt communication. Attention to horse care and wellness that is second to none. Compassionate training of the horse that seeks first to understand, then to inspire a better performance rather than using force or coersion. Genuine respect and consideration for the owner/client. I have been riding for over 30 years and cannot say enough great things about Kelly Jennings and Cellar Door Farm.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Board payable to Bell Canyon Equestrian Center starting at $660/month including alfalfa, 3-way, or Bermuda hay--Timothy available for extra cost. FULL TRAINING + CARE Individually tailored training program for both horse and rider based on personal goals for home and shows Combination of lessons, training rides, hacks, and occasional trail rides 5-6 days per week based on what is in the best interest of the horse Communication and discussion with client about progress and learning of both horse and rider Any necessary ground work or desensitization Full grooming/tacking + basic supplies Show trim and mane pull Body clipping as needed for additional fee Ice/wraps/poultice as necessary Turnout and blanketing services Feeding of CDF provided grain and free choice minerals and client provided supplements Management of and attention to all care appointments such as shoeing, vet work, body work, etc Administration of veterinary care/rehabilitation services as needed Cleaning of bits and bridles Laundering of pads, wraps and towels Full training and care is priced at $1150/mo. Clients will be assisted in setting up a Dynamite account for supplements tailored to their horses needs.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to ride a new horse first so as to get a feel for their education, their way of going, and their level of understanding of the aids. Next I would give a lesson to horse and rider, to see how the rider communicates with the horse, and how much each understand. Once that's been illuminated, I come up with a plan with the rider to continue on towards any goals they may have in a way that makes the team of them stronger and more connected. This may include a great deal of flatwork, exercises with low jumps, or working on one specific aspect of their balance or ride, to name a few.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies from Centenary University: concentrations in Equine Business Management, Equine Science, and Riding Instruction and Horse Training 10 years experience as Assistant Trainer to such trainers as Peter Lombardo, Erin Duffy, Ilan Ferder, and Ginny Plancke.
