We hired Karen for a 50th birthday party. I would say she did a good job. We hired a similar artist in the past for a children's birthday party and it seemed he was much quicker and did full color drawings. I will say that this was a very hot evening and the conditions were less than optimal. The most important thing is that our guests were happy with their drawings and that is what matters in the end.Jun 13, 2016Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Yes. I charge $125/hour up to 3 hours then $100/hr after that. This is for any type of CARICATURE, any size. I draw PROFILES, 3/4 or FULL FACES. I don't usually draw little bodies or use color. I prefer to concentrate on likeness rather than speed.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I like to communicate via email so we have everything in writing and we can work out all the details. Once I get all their information, I'll make up a contract between us and ask for a small deposit to hold their date. Once the contract is signed and the deposit received, it's a go! I try to show up about 1/2 hour early to set up and make sure all the details are set. Then I draw! I usually draw for 2 hours straight before I take a break.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a BA degree in Art from the University of California, Davis, and I've taken both PORTRAIT & CARICATURE classes in the past. The best thing I do is go to a caricature convention where we can draw uninhibited and get great tips from other artists. I also got my start working at DISNEYLAND, so that was a great boost.
