Started out great. Got all of the lumber installed for the new deck. Said he would return the following Tuesday. He didn't show up, I emailed him and he had gone all hunting. So he says he will be out Saturday. Another no show and after I email him again he says he is in Florida for insurance inspections.
Poffenbarger Inspections's reply
Now the truth of what transpired. Cassidy called me to meet her and look at the project. She did not show because she said she was out of state and I met with her son in-law. The house and yard was in disarray and very poorly maintained. I looked at a deck that was existing but in poor condition it also was patched together and seemingly had repairs done to it by the son in-law. The joist were installed incorrectly and the joist hangers were screwed on poorly and inefficiently. I priced out the deck to repair what I saw and to install joist between already existing that were 2' on center. Cassidy stated she wanted to put down trex decking I said to her that the joist needed to be no less than 1' on center she agreed. I told both the son in-law and Cassidy that I was on limited time and had a remodel starting in Brekenridge the following week. I did not hear back from them until Thursday of the following week. I had now four days left before I left to Brekenridge and when we agreed to do the work it was for no more than repairing the deck framing labor only for 2,350.00. She agreed and understood. We repaired the deck as we agreed and when the deck material was delivered she had the deck boards and railing delivered with framing. I immediately called to verify if Cassidy understood I was there to repair the framing only and she said yes, that the son in-law was going to put down the deck boards and that she would have the rail done later and by another contractor. We completed the work and were paid by credit card. Cassidy asked if I could do the deck boards at a later date and I told her I could not but maybe I could get my laborers to do the work. I did not agree to any more work than performed and nor did I take any money for any more work other than original agreement. It is unfortunate that this lady misrepresented the truth but in 40 years of working in this industry I have run across a few of these clients that think or assume that things are different than agreed. I also was subjected to smelling marijuana constantly as the house had many plants and lights exposed to the outside from a daylight basement and the smell was atrocious. Maybe she runs a grow house I'm not sure but it was a distraction at best.
