FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lesson fees are due on the first lesson of each month. Lesson cancellations should be made at least within 24hrs of the scheduled lesson so that your slot can be made available to others, otherwise it will be charged as per normal. There will be no make-up lessons unless there is an emergency/sickness, provided a common time can be worked out between us within the month. I offer Skype lessons as an option for make up lessons too. I strongly encourage lesson continuity and therefore do not offer credits for following months.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I subscribe to various string magazines in order to keep updated with the latest news. I am always on the look out for creative teaching ideas, constantly exploring different teaching methods and strategies.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I love the violin and have always had a passion for teaching. There was never any other career I had considered going into; this is truly my childhood dream. I completed my teacher training at the National Institute of Education in Singapore and started full time teaching as an elementary school teacher. I then wanted to specialize in violin teaching, thus pursued a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Auckland, majoring in Violin Pedagogy with Elizabeth Holowell. My love for learning then led me to complete the Suzuki Pedagogy Certificate Course at the University of Denver with Kathleen Spring. Seeing progress in my students - no matter how big or small - motivates me and makes me love my job even more.
