Introduction: Hi! I am Michele Eaton, owner of Illumine Tutoring, LLC. I am passionate about teaching and mentoring students who are reaching for their dreams by learning. I hope to be your next (or first) one-on-one tutor in Reading, Writing, Social Studies, or adult Professional and Creative Writing. Why me? I have 15 years of professional experience as a writer, from news reporting to technical reports to creative writing. I also have 10 years of academic reading, writing, testing, and meeting teacher expectations. Specifically, I have a Bachelor's degree in English from American Military University (4.0 GPA), a Master's degree in Communications from the University of Southern California (4.0 GPA), and I have nearly completed my PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Colorado (3.9 GPA). I use this education along with my professional experience to provide targeted curriculum and personal academic guidance to students of all ages and levels in each of the below subjects. I also coach non-student adults, business professionals and creative writers. Where do you most need help? --English --Reading --Reading Comprehension --Writing --Communications --Journalism --Admittance Essays --Business Writing --Creative Writing --History --Government & Civics --Social Studies --Sciences (K - undergrad) --Test prep in all the above My tutoring philosophy? I believe in life-long learning and in customized, one-on-one mentoring of aspiring students so that they can learn in ways that work for them as individuals. My students currently range in age from 7 to 74 years old, and they all learn practical methods for absorbing information permanently, resulting in continued good outcomes even after we part ways. I also know what it's like to be a struggling student. I went from having a 2.8 GPA in high school (and hating it) to developing a strong belief in the ability of a good education to empower and change lives, including my own. I've seen it too many times to doubt it. Trust me--your education goals are not out of reach with the right support! I would love to hear from you about how I can help support you and/or your student. Feel free to get in touch with a Thumbtack Inbox message and I will get back to you within 24 hours. COVID-19 NOTE: Due to the current spread of Covid-19 variants, I must ask all in-person students and families to be either vaccinated (with proof) or to wear a mask during in-person sessions. Social distancing (6 feet) will be observed at all times regardless of vaccine status. I am fully vaccinated AND will happily wear a mask at your request. Thank you for understanding!

Reading and Writing Tutoring

Michele made all my anxiety surrounding my grad school personal statement fade away. She is easy to talk to, understanding, and has a talent where she knows what you're trying to say and can help you find the right words. She went above and beyond, sending me notes, advice, and techniques after our scheduled sessions. I will be reaching out to her with any other writing help I may need, I cannot recommend her enough!

Her tutoring style is one that built my confidence and brought out my best work. Passionate about education and an expert in her field, Michele truly cares about helping students be better at things that are important to them.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I am here to help, to guide, to support, to cheer you from the sidelines. I'm here to see you succeed. In my mind, there is nothing better than seeing a light bulb go on in a student's head.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First, we schedule an informal chat to make sure we're a good fit. This initial session is free of charge to anyone who seeks my services. If we decide to work together, I first help you define what you want to get out of our relationship so we're on the same page. If I can't help you, I'll be straight with you. If I'm not what you're looking for, you'll be straight with me. If we match up, we decide on a day and time to meet regularly. I'm flexible about rescheduling as long as my calendar allows it. Payments generally come via Venmo, but I'm flexible about that, too. I accept checks and/or other payment apps. I accept payments as soon as right before each session all the way to once per month. If you need extra assistance with payments, please simply let me know and we'll work something out. You should never have to go without learning.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor's in English, a Master's in Communication, and have nearly completed a PhD in Educational Leadership, Research and Policy.

Not what you’re looking for?

No problem: we have pros for every job.
