Introduction: All of the students I tutor have individual needs. I choose materials for each student that addresses the areas that need support; it's tailor-made so to speak. All of the reading programs are 100% phonics-based, meaning students learn digraphs, diphthongs, spelling rules, meanings of affixes, and vocabulary. Reading comprehension and fluency are incorporated into each lesson. In addition, I tutor spelling, grammar, and writing. The ability to write an essay or report is an important skill when preparing for high school and college. Elementary math is another subject I help students with understanding. Practice and the use of "word problems" are one of the methods used to develop mastery of math. I enjoy working with students on a journey to success. I tutor to fill in the missing pieces for students to gain understanding. Patience is one of my strengths with students. It makes my occupation enjoyable and fulfilling.

Jody is a great tutor. She helped my son with his reading, spelling, writing, and math. My son's teacher suggested Jody and her tutoring services. His teacher said Jody was excellent at filling in the missing pieces for our son. The reading intervention program Jody used helped improve our son's grades by helping him find certain letter sounds and how to say them. Jody taught him over 25 spelling rules that he still uses. Vocabulary was another important subject she helped our son with. Jody later helped our son become a better writer by showing him how to write sentences, paragraphs, and reports. Math was the other subject our son needed help with. The level Jody put him in was comfortable and he knew the steps. The steps to the math became harder but Jody took time to explain the steps so my son understood it. Call Jody to help you! She is friendly, patient, smart, and easy to talk to.

Jody is an excellent tutor! My 4th grade son fell below grade level in math. Jody identified the areas in math my son needed more practice to develop. She began at a level my son was comfortable with, and steadily and patiently began filling in the gaps he was missing for understanding. Within months my son was feeling more confident with math and he continues to be successful. Should my son need further tutoring I will call Jody for help! I have hired other tutors to teach my son, but Jody is very personable, friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and competent. I recommend her services to anyone looking to find a tutor.

My 4th grade son began to have bad scores on his math and he said he did not understand it. Jody started him at a level he knew really good and then began to make the math more hard. Jody repeated parts my son did not understand. Today my son is above grade level and performing good in school. Jody is patient, relaxed, very smart, and she used many ways to to help him understand. I tell everyone about Jody and her tutoring methods.

Jody was able to help my daughter so much in math and reading. Pammy was not reading well at all! I liked that Jody uses phonics to teach reading. I know Pammy was not getting phonics in school and it showed in her reading skills. Pammy is reading with very good comprehension and fluency! I am so proud! Jody started Pammy at a level she knew very well. The difficulty slowly increased and now Pammy is above grade level and is taking advanced math classes. We strongly encourage parents to contact Jody about tutoring their children. You won't go wrong. I guarantee it!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always appreciate it when a new customer wants to contact me before tutoring begins. It helps me to identify areas of support for the student, and to become acquainted. Students in 3rd grade and above are given an assessment to determine where each student needs assistance.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught in the elementary classroom for over 10 years. As the primary teacher in grades 1-5, I was responsible for teaching reading, math, history, and computer skills. In addition, I have worked for the Kumon Reading & Math Center in Longmont for 5 years.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Becoming a teacher was a childhood decision. After I raised my children and they were in school I went back to college to make that a real decision. After graduation, I began working in Boulder Valley schools. I receive great joy from watching children, and adults, learn and develop into successful people. Children are teachers, too, because of their innocence and candor.
