Jennifer Watkins is hands down the best attorney I could have ever ask for. She is extraordinary. After consulting with multiple attorneys after I received my DUI, I chose Jennifer based on her complete knowledge of the law, the fact that she was honest and set realistic expectations, and even more impressive was that she took the time to really understand my particular situation and discussed different angles. Jennifer is extremely well informed and creative, and she sees possibilities in defense that might not be obvious. The part that truly sets her above and in a league of her own is how much she truly cares about her clients. She has not chosen to practice DUI defense for the paycheck, she is determined to help and fights HARD to get the best outcome. Also impressive is how quickly she returns texts and phone calls - straight away. This is not an attorney who you will pay and wonder what the heck they are doing for you...she kept me informed every step of the way, and has gone above and beyond for me. Jennifer has been practicing in Boulder County for a long time and it shows. She seems to know everyone, and is well respected, which always helps! Getting the opportunity to know Jennifer was the only bright spot to this whole mess I got myself into

Knowledgeable and efficient Bankruptcy Attorney Mr. Dart is well versed in bankruptcy law. His detailed explanation of the bankruptcy process was very clear. He made sure we understood and were comfortable with every step before we proceeded. He knew exactly what information we needed to provide him and made certain everything was complete before we attended the hearing. At the hearing he conducted himself professionally and our hearing went quickly without issue. -Lisa

I contacted Dave Rich several years ago to file for divorce. Unfortunately, at the time, I convinced myself we could try again. Dave was extremely understanding. I contacted Dave again 2 years later and we got the process started. He was so understanding as to where I was coming from and always respected my decisions and needs. His guidance was invaluable as I was not in the best frame of mind and having a very difficult time seeing the forest through the trees and keeping my emotions in check. He was able to process the paperwork without a court appearance and also obtained money from my ex-husband that he attempted to hide. He fought for me when I needed it most and did everything he could to keep my costs down and succeeded. Dave was always available to me and will remain my council of choice for any future situations and will be assisting me with additional services to include a will to be drawn up for my daughters. If you need an attorney, Dave Rich should be your first call. I am very happy with the results he provided.

Jeff really understood our current needs as a start-up business and gave great advice. Unlike other attorneys I talked to, he didn't pressure us to go through unneeded steps and paperwork to accomplish our goals. He was extremely fast and responsive, and I'm looking forward to working with him in the future.

I did my resurch as far as pricing lawyers and usually you get what you pay for but Mike was the absolute most affordable and has far surpassed all my expectations! After utilizing his services it came up I needed representation again and no suprise, with no hesitation (it was last minute) he made room in his schedule to be there for me! What started out as a professional relationship has developed into a close friendship! I tell anyone that needs representation to call him and every person I sent to him has the same awesome experience! I got found NOT GUILTY! One of my good friends who took my advice and hired him was looking at 12 years (his best deal with a public defender) Mike got him a deal of less then 5 years! Another close friend really got himself in a world of trouble and instead of doing 8 years in a state penatery he just got 1 year work release and 2 years regular probation! That's amazing if you knew the circumstances and how red handed he was caught! Everyone and i mean EVERYONE I talk to about Mike and how he did for them will gladly and eagerly tell you how their backs were against the wall with the DA and Mike saved the day quite literally! Not only is he one of the best at what he does but he is an amazing soul! It has truly been a pleasure knowing Mike and I know you will have the same experiences with him as I and countless others have! He truly cares about people especially his clients!

Prior to knowing Gordon had worked on personal litigation claims I had worked with him on several other legal matters. I had initially hired a "billboard attorney" to represent me in a PI case who wasn't very personable and had very limited "daily" involvement in my case. I could tell from the get go he had no interested in advocating for me and thus I decided to switch law firms mid-case. Gordon had finally agreed to take over my case and get progress made after I had recovered fully from my injury. I regret not getting Cannon Hadfield LLC involved the first time as it was a major headache dealing with the other firm. Overall from the moment Gordon took over my case I felt at ease and he and his staff were very easy with communication and working to ensure I got the settlement I deserved. Gordon has the tactfulness needed to ensure a case is handled properly and is an expert when it comes to deposition. Compared to the insurance companies lawyer he was far more superb and prepared for deposition than I could ever imagine. Not only is Gordon a skillful attorney with a charming sense of humor but he also genuinely cares about his clients well being which is something that tends to lack in other attorney relations I have seen. I walked away with DOUBLE the original offer that the billboard attorney told me was the "final offer" prior to going to trial and never stepped foot in a court room. I would highly recommend Gordon and Sam to advocate for me if the need ever arises again.

I had good experiences being represented by Andrea. She was very attentive to my case and always took the time to explain the processes and to answer all of my questions. She was able to get the best outcome out of a bad situation. It would have been a lot worse had I not hired her.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

    • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
    • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
    • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
    • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
    • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
    • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
