Introduction
My name is Myles Roberts, and I am the current Teaching Assistant for the flute studio at the University of Northern Colorado.
I currently reside in Greeley Colorado, but I have studied in South Africa and Italy, where I have taught as the assistant to Prof. Raffaele Trevisani in the Civica Scuola de Musica de Milano. In this capacity, it has allowed me to teach students from a variety of cultural spheres, varying in different ages and levels. Whilst in Europe, I also won the prestigious Lafin head joint at the Galway Flute festival in Switzerland 2015.
I teach from beginner to graduate leveled students, and I always adjust my teaching style to suit the needs of the individual student. My goal is that each student reaches their fullest potential, at their own speed.
My approach to teaching is flexible and learner-centred. My ability to analyse problem areas in a student’s playing and find creative and effective ways to solve these problems is my strongest asset as a teacher. I have come to understand that the use of clear analogies, strong visual imagery, and breaking down challenging concepts into their basic building blocks not only facilitates accelerated learning, but also empowers the student to take control of the learning process.
Based on the feedback from my students and the results that I have witnessed, this approach has been very successful. Students often point out that they find it very easy to understand when I explain new concepts to them.
As a teacher, I maintain an active performing status. Some of my past performance highlights include: Playing as soloist with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, Verbier Music festival in Switzerland, Holland festival in Amsterdam-for the King and Queen of the Netherlands. First prize winner at the UNCO Concerto competition, and soloist with Munich state orchestra in Mauritius.
