FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I usually just come and see the project and try to get as accurate of an idea as possible of what you want done and then give you a solid price that is specifically defined. There are a few times that an hourly situation is necessary for extras or unknown issues, but I usually try to pre-price as much as possible, that way both parties know what to expect. And most of the time I do a 50% deposit with the balance due at the time of completion.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My Dad owned a cabinet shop and finish carpentry business when I was a kid, and his Dad owned a cabinet shop up until he passed, so it was just a natural direction for me. I started out at 14 learning how to do finishes and paint, I ended up being the designated finish guy (stain and lacquer, paint, etc) for a time. Then ended up doing trim on Custom houses for a lot of years before moving into largely commercial millwork for quite a while. I have done a little bit of everything including tile and drywall.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
All different types, I have been at all different levels of the business, so have worked directly with general contractors doing huge 45 story buildings all the way to directly for homeowners.
