Introduction: As a bookish and reserved kid, I always looked at the school athletes with confusion. Wouldn't they rather watch T.V. than train all day? What are they even working so hard for? When I was running the dreaded mile in middle school, I would huff and puff as the athletic kids flew past me effortlessly. How do they even do that? I will never be able to do this. Where can I hide from the coach? There were things I knew, as follows: 1. I can't do this. 2. I will never fit into those clothes. 3. Everyone is judging me for being out of shape. 4. Some people were built for fitness and I am not one of them. But in college, I looked at myself (and my 45-pound weight gain) and couldn't ignore what needed to happen. I trained hard, ate well, slept a lot, and lost the weight! I changed my major to human nutrition and dietetics. I became chairman of the health and wellness committee in my sorority and became a personal trainer since then. Changing my body has absolutely improved my life and my confidence. Here is what I know now, as follows: 1. Nothing will stop me from what I set out to achieve. 2. I will wear whatever I damn well please. 3. Anyone who judges you for your personal health journey are not people you want in your life anyway. There are so many people who will support you and be proud of you. 4. Everyone is capable of fitness. Fitness is not a number on a scale. You don't have to be an athlete since birth and you do not need to buy weight loss magic tricks.
