Introduction: A Better Remodeling Experience I am a general contractor who specializes in residential remodeling and custom homes. For the past 30 years, I have remodeled kitchens, bathrooms, and basements; built additions, pop tops, and custom homes; and completed many smaller projects (windows, doors, decks, roofs, patios, etc.). My clients love the fact that I provide free design and CAD drawings, give them access to my wholesale suppliers, and personally supervise every project. But most of all, they like my simple, honest, no-drama approach. Thirty years ago, I thought this was "building" business, but really it's a relationship business. My clients are normal, honest, busy people who just want a fair price, good work, and no surprises; and I enjoy being "that guy" who they both appreciate and respect enough to call me again and refer me often.

Trust your instincts, and then make one small commitment at a time when possible (example: agree to a minor project or design before committing to a major remodel); a good contractor will understand your concerns, appreciate your candor, and welcome the opportunity to demonstrate his/her positive ability and attitude.
