Introduction: Hello! I'm Jim Nelson, a retired tradesman with decades of experience in fixing and repairing things around the house. Having owned old houses and fixer-uppers myself, I understand the ins and outs of home maintenance and improvement.
My background is rooted in carpentry and glazing, having been trained as a carpenter and then worked as a journeyman glazer for over 30 years. I also operated my own construction company for 16 years as well as worked in construction project management.
When it comes to repairs, I excel at fixing doors, windows and small flooring and trim projects ,as well as tackling other projects around the house. In addition to my own home repairs and projects, I also built my own house several decades ago and am familiar with every layer of a home build or home repair. My husband and I originally replaced all our interior doors when we first bought our (very old and weird) house. We did not know what we were doing and our doorframes are not square, so none of our doors closed for two years. Jim came in and fixed all of them in a day. He had to take some down and shorten them and redo the hinges on others, but a few were just easy tweaks. He took extra time to be sure our nursery door closed soundlessly (first baby was on the way). He was thoughtful, straightforward and easy to work with.
He also noticed we had a broken threshold for our kitchen door and so fixed that while he was here!
