Introduction: Frankly I would say the main way that Im different in my approach to tennis instruction is that I focus on the student's inherent abilities and attitudes and build them up first. That way they can have success as they round out their games. Of course if there are glaring weaknesses (like they cant hit an overhead serve) then there are fundamental necessities that would have to be addresses right off the bat. What I love about teaching tennis is the fact that I feel that Im giving people the ability to enjoy something that they can carry all their lives. Its a very "civilized" sport in that sportsmanship and etiquette are an integral part of the game and its history which enables a person to be EXTREMELY competitive and still leave it all on the court and go to lunch after if you choose. The game itself encourages athleticism and fitness, flexibility and mental toughness as well as strategic thinking and even wit and humor at times.

I am always watching the pros and listening for innovations in tennis.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I played by myself and for myself for years... then one day when I was playing with someone at a public park a mom asked me if I gave lessons... I said no and referred her to a club I knew about because I felt that without having any formal training Id be an amateur taking some professional's livelihood away from them. Little did I know that there are a lot of tennis "professionals" out there doing just that... another story...
What types of customers have you worked with?
Most commonly I help them with specific issues that they are having troubles with in their game. Forehand consistency, backhand technique, serving both consistency and technique (ha). Many times people are brand new so its getting them acquainted with all phases of the game in a way thats not overwhelming...
