Introduction: I make sure each student receives a solid foundation in theory as well as exposure to reading notes, which is something guitarists are not known for. My ability to teach theory well makes me a great choice for those who want to learn to improvise. Seeing the light go on in people, and the smile they have when they realize they are getting it.

Pete is a terrific guitar player and has immense knowledge about music theory, which he's able to break down and communicate in very understandable and practical terms. I've made tremendous progress learning to play guitar thanks to Pete's instruction.

Rolled the dice here on thumbtack and could not be happier with my decision. Pete is an excellent instructor with a massive knowledge of his craft. He's a totally normal guy and comes right to my house once a week for an hour. Im more of an intermediate player trying to get into some more advanced theory, jazz/blues and improvisational stuff, and the curriculum that he is laying out is totally perfect, but I can tell that he would also be equally clear and efficient on any level of instruction. He makes the material relatable, logical and easy to grasp, and focuses on a real musical approach rather than monotonous drilling of scale patterns and note names. On the first day he brought me a notebook that we have been building on and writing more and more into as the weeks progress, so i always have everything laid out in front of me for practice. He also allows the sessions to be recorded on my laptop so i can go back to review things we discussed, which i have found very helpful in conjunction with the notebook. He really helps me think about things in ways that make sense and i can feel my level of understanding skyrocketing with each practice session, growing more each day for sure. Whether you are just starting out and want a clear concise path to playing, or you've been playing for years and want to push yourself to the next level and truly understand music and the guitar, i would highly advise giving this guy a call. I highly doubt you will regret it, i sure dont.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have never considered any other way of life.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

It's important to find a teacher who understands how to balance the "fun stuff" like learning licks and tunes with the elements of the practice which are less appealing like theory and reading. The latter eventually translate into a great deal of FUN later on, and should be incorporated. Some teachers bow to resistance from the student and don't end up giving a real education. Good teachers know how to work it all in while maintaining the student's interest.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

It takes a tremendous amount of dedication, time and love to become great at what we do.
