Introduction: I perform a 30 minute close up magic show as Vanilla Swirl the clown. The show features a puppet, a little basic juggling, plate spinning and a make-believe flea circus. After the show I hand out twisted balloons. My show evolved from decades of performances in living rooms, class rooms, summer camps and libraries. That environment where the kids are close enough where I can hand something to the kids, is where my show goes over best. For stage or Hall performances there are better performer choices but do consider hiring me to twist balloons for those types of events.

I contacted and booked Vanilla Swirl for my nieces 2nd birthday party. After several communications with him via Thumbtack, we spoke on the phone and re-confirmed the date, time and location of the event. My niece was thrilled to be having a clown for her birthday, so you could imagine her disappointment when he was a complete no-show! Not a phone call, text or message. The let down on her face when we had to tell her the clown isn’t coming is something I never want to see again. He is unprofessional, unreliable and mean to say the least. I still have not heard from him as to what happened, but I will certainly recommend another source of entertainment if you are looking for a clown.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I request a deposit of $25. I also request that I get paid the balance at the beginning of my time with your party guests.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to touch base with a customer to discuss their feelings on social distancing and the kids that will be attending. I also would like to get their children’s age, first name of their child and address of the event. I also will want to know the approximate number of kids that are expected. I’d like to request the customers email address in order for me to email them a letter of agreement, stating my understanding of our agreement. I arrive carrying in two large plastic boxes and a bag of balloons. With COVID-19 I’ve been using a battery operated microphone to help my voice carry while wearing a mask.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Attended the week long Clown, Mime, Puppetry & Dance Ministry Workshops, twice. Attended the International Juggler’s Convention and the Northeast Clown Association once, a week long workshop that the “Clown’s Without Borders”, put on through the Omega Center, ongoing training through, The Magician’s Business Hub and Balloon Artist College.
