Introduction: Hi! My name is Judy and I guess I have a fascination with faces, and a keen eye for detail, thus my love of and knack for drawing them with accuracy! So, caricatures (or my “portraicatures”), my main service here, are portrayed in “cute” and fun renditions, as I prefer to capture a person's likeness in as flattering and accurate way possible, in an illustrative manner. I do not maximize prominent features to outrageous proportions (as in theme parks ), or indistinct style. There are many talented artists, but my style is uniquely my own. I also draw fairly quickly and love meeting and engaging with new people if able as I draw! Please keep in mind however when considering requesting a quote, I generally do not take bookings that are less duration than 3/4-equal the time that I would have to travel both ways to get to the location. You may want to check that before reaching out. In age of waning COVID, I offered to serve VIRTUALLY, that can be done via an invitation to ZOOM by a host, during which I draw on my iPad, as folks appear on my computer screen ( or on paper which can be mailed). Alternatively, FaceTime works too if all are in one location. Note that time for each digital drawing is a bit longer, than live on paper. I can do a virtual only gig no matter where prospect is, though I do have “remote” offering turned off ( bc of confusion with me driving to draw live anywhere). See some samples below of my virtual style, and consider booking an hour or two, or more if suitable! In addition to gigs or commission work from photos, I also create people and pet portraits, and pet caricatures, or perhaps a home rendering for a person who treasures their home! And I can also create collages or handle other photoshop retouching work/photo enhancement, and can quote a simple graphic design piece or project though the latter few are rarely quoted because there’s not an ability for a lot of input detail, but if you are interested in either of those things, please be a specific as possible, including quantity, descriptions, sizes, styles interested in and or samples, color or BW etc. IMPORTANT: Though I occasionally draw and sell as a vendor, I am NOT listed on Thumbtack for those opportunities since that is more often fill-in work, and not as lucrative, especially where travel is involved, so please do not reach out to me for that type of event, but rather paid by the hour gigs only. Lastly, I have really strived to have a good internet presence, to satisfy my customers and I am pleased to say have a very good online rating. Please research by googling me. Thanks for reading!

Judy was fantastic!! Highly recommend. She was on time for my party, super friendly and did a great job of drawing all my party guests. She was a big hit and a wonderful addition to my sons first birthday party. Everyone really enjoyed no only their drawings that Judy did but they also enjoyed her as a person. Would definitely hire her again.

Details: 51 - 100 guests • Birthday party • Full color

I hired Judy for my husband's 60th Birthday party and all of my guests were over the moon with the caricature drawings she created for them. She's an amazing artist and was a big hit at our party! So talented! And she made everyone so happy with their drawings! So much so that they were all showing them to each other! Judy was a great addition to our party and I highly recommend hiring her for your next big event!

We had Judy at our school's 5th grade send off celebration and she drew individual caricatures of each student. She was AMAZING! The kids LOVED their drawings. Judy was efficient, pleasant and worked well with even students that had special needs. I highly recommend her to anyone for a function. A++ Thanks again Judy!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Party event caricature entertainment is per hour with a 2 hour minimum, but I have the discretion to waive that depending on circumstances, and with an added surcharge. I will travel beyond 50 miles, but not more than 2.5 hour travel time, unless accommodations are involved and included in price which would be noted, or if there are unique circumstances (friend living in area etc). There is a travel fee added to total as travel increases past 30 miles from home base, depending on distance which is include in price. For gigs, I do not currently have a discount (2021) because for years I had not raised prices, plus offered a discount over 3 hours. As of now, prices are based on $115 per hour, and there are packages available for 3 hour + gigs that include an add- on such as a commission, special drawing paper and or sign-in board. Gift work including portraits, caricatures or home renderings are priced per project, anywhere from $40 generally to a few hundred dollars, depending on what it is, and size of the final, generally no larger than 18 x 24. Graphic design is usually calculated by an estimated price per hour fee, and then a total is estimated from that, usually including a round of tweaks or minor changes. I tend to try to do a $400-$500 logo flat fee (this usually involves a handful of designs in sketch form, one - two favorites digitized with color options if desired, then a final choice) but that could also vary depending on the scope of the project, the use and how many creative options the customer wants to see explored before making a decision.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once a quote is viewed, if there's not enough detail on the front end or on my response, we will have further discussion. If they decide to book me or hire me, I would then draft up either a booking agreement contract or an art work order and send via email, which would then be returned signed with a deposit before entertaining at an event or proceeding to final artwork. Payment terms are to be determined depending on the project. Caricature entertainment and portrait or artwork, generally is 1/3 to 50% deposit and balance paid upon delivery or at event, cash or check. Other projects may have other terms. Some are paid in full upfront, especially if a credit card is to be used. I also have Paypal for payment (not available for selection on payment options page).

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BFA in Graphic Communications from an established CT art school, and designed full and part time for 25+ years! More recently, I joined an international caricature society and am subscribed to their social media group, and read their magazine. I am familiar with other local caricaturists, a handful I will hire if more than one artist is requested, though our styles are unique. During the COVID shutdown I taught myself to draw, and create caricatures on my iPad to add digital options to my ETSY shop ( JTPortraicatures), of which I sold over a dozen wedding Change the Date caricature graphics for use on postcards and magnets, with couples drawn complete with masks! I may also be interested in the option of drawing live at corporate events, but it would involve buying equipment and transporting a lot more things with me, so I am not forging ahead right now but I do want to become informed about it (See next question). I did do few virtual events, one through an agent via Zoom, but that has not taken off for me. In addition, I did take some seminars and workshops regarding my design career and am self-taught in all the design and production software I use regularly. As you know, we are all grossly inundated with information overload so I've not taken a lot of time to research and read about graphic design related advances on a regular basis, but I do see and hear the things related to graphics and communications in general from sources all around me, and that part of my career has waned in favor of caricatures and portraits.
