FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Absolutely! I love learning as much as I love teaching. Even if it weren't required, you will always find me, at least 1x/year, in a training in yoga or related healing field.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was about 38 years old when I 1st heard the words, "Yoga Therapist," and upon hearing those sounds, my whole body came alive. I had been raised as a dancer, but hadn't danced seriously in a couple of decades, so in my 20's yoga seemed like a reasonable substitute. I was in and out of it for a couple of decades, and in that time, I learned to teach a few styles of yoga, most of them in the athletic range. When I came to the style I now teach, I understood it immediately, and did everything I could to do all the training ASAP! It was there, in my 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training, I heard the words, "Yoga Therapist," and knew that was the next level for me. But then in Advanced Teacher Training & Yoga Therapy Training, this school asked if anyone was interested in becoming a Teacher Trainer. YUP!!!! So there I was, not even 2 years into a brand new (and very different) style of yoga, and I was interning as a Teacher Trainer! It wasn't long before I quit my 'regular' job and dedicated my time, skill and talent to teach others who wanted to share this wonderful gift with the world. Now, nearly 15 years later, I can honestly say, I've never been happier!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I do run a few weekly classes, but the meat of my work, my absolute joy, is as a Yoga Therapist. I often work with people who have hit a dead end in their recovery from illness or injury. They have worked with others in both the standard medical arena, as well as the alternative fields. And though they do find some relief, there are occasions where the recovery has stalled and can't get going again. I work with people to stop the progression of, or even reverse: scoliosis, migraines, sciatica, arthritis, physical damage from car accidents, anxiety and depression, weight loss, and even what we call "normal aging." "I can do things now that I couldn't do before I started yoga with Kris. I haven't aged as much, and I think I'm younger now." Barbara B, CT (She's almost 84 years old!)
