FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started my career as a Software Engineer, and while that career was rewarding and I was given the opportunity to work alongside some of the best engineers in the world, personally I wanted to do something a bit more creative and artistic. I went back to school to earn my masters degree in the mid 2000s, and soon began to change career paths and become a web developer/designer - using my skills as a Software Engineer to help me along the way. As I advanced further in my new career, I became more and more interested in digital/web marketing and soon added Social Media, Search Engine Optimization, and overall web marketing strategy to my skill set and services. After working for some of the best companies in Massachusetts, including Raytheon, Harvard Apparatus, Assumption College, and Hanover Insurance - I decided to go out on my own and start Massachusetts Web Designs, as a B2B company dedicated to helping other businesses maximize their web presence and market reach.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Most commonly, our clients are small to medium sized businesses that need to have a website that they can maintain and update on their own. Most of the time, they have a existing website, but its not meeting their needs and/or not attracting customers. Through our partnership with them, we help develop and easy to use website that is optimized for search-engines and for social media, allowing them to easily market themselves and build a relationship with their clients.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Do your research, and don't be afraid to ask pointed questions such as: 1) Will my website be optimized for Search Engines? How do you do that (they should mention META tags, Keyword friendly URLs, Back-links, etc). 2) Will my website work on Mobile Devices? By 2015, more than 50% of the population will be using their smartphones and tablets as their primary method to view the internet. If your website has problems on these devices, that could limit your marketing reach and lose you customers. 3) Can I maintain the website myself? A lot of web services now provides an easy to use Content Management System (CMS) that allows novice users to maintain their own websites.
