Super Quick Turn-Around! Great Service! I requested a quote for a Trademark in May 2017 and immediately hired Rick over 3 other attorneys. He presented a few options as well as his recommendation for the most cost effective way to file. I’m happy to say that 2 months after taking Rick’s professional recommendation, I sent Rick an email at 9am, 8 July 2017and he filed not only one, but two Trademarks at 12pm, 8 July 2017 on a Saturday. Now, that is AWESOME customer service! It is incredibly wonderful to work with someone who is responsive, transparent, and has the best interest of the customer in mind. Thanks again Rick!

Attorney Lawrence did an amazing job. was very professional and reassuring throughout my entire divorce process. And with the hours I work it is difficult to meet. He was extremely accommodating to my situation. He knows his Law, and most of all was just non intimidating to me as most lawyers can be.

I hired Mrs. Dawson to represent me as an attorney for a Family Court case that turned Criminal. This case was for a same sex relationship. As much as we would like to think same sex people are not discriminated in the court system (I unfortunately felt a small amount of prejudice). It was hard calling around the lawyers explaining the situation and receiving price quotes. I was connected with Mrs Dawson through thumbtack thinking it would make the process of finding an attorney less grouling. If you have any doubt on hiring Mrs Dawson to represent you, stop now and hire her. she is amazing! A true professional and very knowledgable with the court system and laws. She made my case a breeze and I also felt she was on my side without prejudice & judgement of who I am. Made very confident and comfortable. She had just the right balance of compassion and professionalism and was able to "tell it like it is" including all of my options and rights I had moving forward in court. After hiring her my case moved along quickly and she took complete charge. I cannot say enough good things about my experience dealing with Mrs Dawson! Her presence makes you feel comfortable and confident. She tells it like it is, makes no false hopes and gets it done for you. She worked hard on my case and made it look like a cynch on her part. I had little to do once I hired her. Her pricing is very fair. I felt I received a lot for my money. Communication was quick and perfect. Thank you Mrs Dawson. If I ever need to use her again, I will 100% and I will also recommend her to friends, family and colleagues 100% I am overly joyful with the outcome of my case and having the chance to work with Mrs Dawson. Some attorneys just try to get things over with as quick as possible and sometimes using methods that can effect you later in life. Mrs Dawson fought for the outcome I received, didn't just wait to see what would happen or take the easiest escape route possible. Truly amazed by this attorneys job done on my case!!

My wife Megan, was in some financial difficulty before we married. As a result dhe had to file bankruptcy. Tim was very professional and made the process very easy for her. It's never great being in a stressful situation like that but Tim lessened it to a degree and was with my wife through the entire process. He even petitioned the courts to allow her to pay her filing fee in installments which is something we were unaware she could do. Tim's fee was extremely reasonable and he didn't try to rip her off like other lawyers tried to. If you need a solid, professional attorney at a reasonable price, please hire Tim for your bankruptcy needs.

My daughter had 2 tickets that were going to trial on Sept 22. A cell phone and a no insurance ticket. The no insurance we had proof of insurance on, but was set for trial late October. I put in the request for an attorney late on Sept 20th. At 8pm in the evening is when I spoke with Mr. Lung. He emailed what he needed and payment options. Super easy payment and extremely reasonable rates. He appeared in court in Hauppauge (Suffolk County Traffic Violations Bureau) this morning. Yes this morning Sept 21st and he was able to get the cell phone and the insurance issue dealt with today. She did not have to take off of work to go to court. Very few traffic tickets need the client to appear for court. I highly recommend Mr. Lung. He spent a lot of time on the phone, made everything clear and concise. He's located in Nassau County, but was able to handle this Suffolk County issue within 14 hours!! Very impressive!

Ekta filed my H1B visa for two terms, followed by my entire green card application. I have worked with several immigration attorneys but Ekta's knowledge about the changing immigration laws, customer focused approach and prompt communication helped alleviate my concerns on immigration matters. I was so comfortable with Ekta and her attention to detail on different timelines during the immigration process that I never had to worry about missing any application deadlines. If you are in the market for an immigration attorney, I strongly encourage you to contact Ekta.

Attorney Katherine Bakes is a great attorney. She is very kind and treats you like a friend and not just another client. She is also very knowledgeable and thorough and makes sure that your case is handled properly. Attorney Goff took up my case and cause after one of the biggest law firms thought it was too difficult. (Do they think it is easy to be badly hurt through no fault of your own???) A friend suggested I talk to Attorney Goff and thank God I did. She made things happen! She is fearless in the face of bad guys and bureaucracy and putting things right.

I was involved in a car accident and at first, the other insurance company offered me an amount that I did not feel was fair based the injuries I sustained. I contacted Peter Bowman who was referred to me by a friend. He scheduled a time and we met at a place that was convenient for me and worked with my busy schedule. Never being in a car accident before, I didn't know what the process was or how long it would take. I gave Attorney Bowman details of the accident and he worked to obtain all necessary documentation. He settled with the insurance company for an amount that was very fair. Him and his paralegal, Melissa, both worked together and kept me informed throughout the entire process, so it went very smoothly with minimal involvement on my part. I do not hope that anything else will occur that would require me to retain an attorney, but if I do, I will without a doubt use Attorney Bowman and his office again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

    • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
    • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
    • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
    • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
    • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
    • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
