I wouldn't recommend J&E Masonry and Historical Restoration for anybody. We had to work with them because our building was half completed, and we had to find a contractor to finish the half-done job. Even though we are located in Pennsylvania, J&E was the only company that replied our ads. The first problem was that contract. When they first arrived, we explained the job that needs to be completed. We didn't show every specific detail, but we said "the window frames need to be done" They asked for some time to take measurements, and we let them do that. After we agreed on the price, they came and said that they didn't see some windows on the other side of the building and they wanted to make an extra contract for that. Since we wanted the job done asap, we didn't make a problem out of it and accepted. The second problem was that there was no deadline in the contract. That may be our mistake not to write that down, but we verbally told them that we would have an opening ceremony on 8/30/2015 and they didn't say that they can't do that. (We signed the contract on 7/15/2015.) Now it's 10/5/2015 and the job is still not done. We saw that it's taking way too long, and signed an "unconditional waiver and release on progress payment" with him, and specified a deadline there. After that, the company said that their truck is broken down and they can't come unless the truck is fixed. We signed the waiver on 9/7/2015, and the deadline to complete the job was 9/13/2015. So they started to say that their truck is broken down before 9/13/2015, and they claim that it's still not fixed today on 10/5/2015. They say they can't work without their truck, but I don't know how they stay in business not working a month! My supervisors think about taking legal action. So if you're desperate and have to work with them, make a thorough contract, specify every inch of detail, and put a deadline.
