Introduction: Hello! My name is Brenda. I recently moved here from NY with my husband in 2018, and now we are so excited to have our perfect baby girl who was born in March 2020! I have my Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design from NYC, and I have NY Fashion Industry experience. I have more than 7 years experience as a fitter/seamstress in a bridal retail store. In Brenda's Sewing Room, I alter any garment in a woman's closet from shortening pants to altering a wedding dress. I also make custom pieces, such as costumes and dresses, including my mom's gown for my wedding, and an elaborate Snow White costume for a client for a Comicon Convention. Kids and adults alike also love to learn to sew in Brenda's Sewing Room, with my private sewing lessons. Sewing is what I love to do. It is truly my passion. I love fitting clothes and special dresses on my customers and seeing their faces light up when the work is done and it fits them like a glove. I love the challenge of new projects. I love working with beautiful fabrics every day. I also love seeing the look on my kids' faces when they learn how to use the sewing machine and they leave my room wearing something that they made with their own two hands. I needed a dress altered quickly for a wedding and I couldn't find anyone near me to do it. I finally found Brenda and I couldn't be happier! She got it done before I needed and it was perfect. I loved the length and that I could get away with not wearing heels 😍🤣 This dress was insanely long and after Brenda I could actually walk in it and it matched the other bridesmaids lengths. Thank you so much, Brenda!!! ❤️

I had been turned away from a couple tailors because of the fabric of my dress I needed cut, but Brenda was able to alter my dress no problem. She is very responsive, and the quality of her work was great. I also gave her short notice and she was still able to complete the job in time. Will definitely recommend!

This review is well overdue. Brenda outdid herself and I thank her so much for the services she provided. I was the customer who needed their dress to be let out at the last minute, and Brenda pulled through. Brenda’s work is simply seamless, having taken material from another dress to complete the altered look. My bride and fellow bridesmaids didn’t even notice and I could not wait to brag about Brenda and her flawless work. I would recommend Brenda and her sewing skills to anyone. Last minute (the week of the wedding) I needed to get my wedding dress bustled and steamed, and Brenda’s sewing room came through. I have a HUGE train on my dress which had me super worried, but that was no issue to her. I brought her the dress, and she did it no complaints! And it looked amazing as well. If you need anything similar done I would 100% recommend over a larger shop that’ll do these alterations. So happy with how it turned out, and how she helped make my wedding day perfect! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing goes by how easy or difficult I deem the work to be. I strive to price competitively. I will not charge too low, and in effect undercut myself, but I will also not charge too high, so it is fair for my customers!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It depends on the project. I always like to first get a preliminary introduction from my customer of what she/he needs or is looking for. Then I like to meet my customer. If we are doing alterations on an existing garment, I do the fitting directly on her/him. If I am making a new garment, I take her/his measurements, make a preliminary pattern to start, then invite my customer back to do another fitting. Then that process keeps going until it is complete and my customer is completely happy and satisfied!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am from NY. I studied fashion design and got my bachelors degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I worked in fashion industry jobs in NYC, and I have been a seamstress at bridal shops since 2013.
