FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Growing up in a very musical and entertaining family, it was natural for me to want to join in the fun! I would run home from school and couldn't wait to get to play the piano. Having private lessons my whole life infused in me a love of all types of music. I studied piano and organ at St. Petersburg Junior College and received a B.A. in Music Education from the University of South Florida in Tampa. After teaching General Music and Chorus for a couple of years, I returned to USF to receive a second undergraduate degree in Piano Performance.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Customized individual piano lessons for all ages and levels along with computer-assisted music instruction. Help beginning students obtain an adequate instrument that fits their budget. Church music including weddings and funerals Accompaniment for professional musicians and for students Music for parties on piano, keyboard and/or accordion with a large repertoire of music available for individual tastes. Link up musicians in many different disciplines with potential job opportunities. Mentoring and consulting because of many years of experience in many facets of music and education.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When looking for an educator, consider the pedagogy courses and experiences in curriculum planning with a college degree specifically in education, not just general performing. Most musicians who know how to play have not had the education to know how to teach, which is another different field. I know how to present concepts according to the learning style and age of different students and break down concepts into fun, entertaining bits that are easily accomplished.
