- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always wanted to be a teacher and began my degree at the age of 40. I believe that it is important to learn, but I also believe that education should be fun and exciting and intriguing. I enjoy the challenge of working one on one with other students and experiencing knowledge via hands on experiences. I used to keep young children and sometimes, we would go outdoors and explore the world around us because there is a world of knowledge to be found in your own backyard! From a young age, research has shown that children learn by experiencing their surroundings and exploring their universe. I enjoy being a part of the learning process and actively participating in learning activities. As adults, we have learned a lot about the world around us, but nothing is greater than sharing what we already know with children while allowing them to explore and learn also. English is my forte' and I enjoy assisting young children with reading and understanding the information that they have read. I enjoy reading to them and expressing my voice to distinguish the different particular characters in a book or story. Above all, learning can be fun and exciting instead of boring and doldrum.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Reading and Comprehension for elementary aged students. Social Science lessons about famous historical people involving Venn diagrams to promote learning. Grammar lessons and explanations of correct grammar usages. Assisting high school students with Social Science lessons that involve creating Power Point presentations. Using flashcards and sight words to increase reading and comprehension. Assisting with editing research papers. Assisting my college professor with Ethics chats.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
-Ask the potential provider about their educational background. -Make sure that the provider has a sufficient educational background and credentials that would allow them to teach elementary and middle school aged students. -The customer and the provider should talk on the phone and meet prior to beginning tutoring sessions. -The customer and the provider should thoroughly discuss the educational needs and concerns of each student requiring tutoring sessions.
